Sportsmen, who enjoy both duck hunting and fishing, are finding plenty of action lately as the duck hunting turns on when the weather is too windy for good fishing and vice versa fishing has been good in windows of light to moderate winds.
While we will save the hunting reports for this week’s Fowl and Game Report, the good duck hunting weather also resulted in a few good catches from areas protected from the strong winds.
Let’s visit about fishing, as we now are in prime time for fall fishing, especially the annual flounder run.
While anglers have become increasingly impatient over the extended warm weather we have been experiencing in recent years, by Thanksgiving the fall fishing and flounder run were well underway. It appears that this year will be a repeat of that scenario.
At press-time on Tuesday, this weekend was looking good for fishing as the effects of the recent cold front will have subsided and lighter winds will help get the action going.
Earlier this week, flounder were out of the marshes and back bays in good numbers working their way toward the Gulf for spawning. Red fish action has been prolific especially for slot reds in East and West Bays and large bull reds around the South Jetty.
Look for that action to continue, with flounder moving closer to the passes into the Gulf.

For today, let’s give thanks for all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon us!
