Today is the last day to register for the HELP! Beaumont RECOVER! Adult & Junior Open tennis tournament being held Saturday and Oct. 29 at the Beaumont Tennis Academy.

Proceeds from the tournament will help those Beaumont-area families affected by Hurricane Harvey.

A variety of singles, doubles and mixed doubles events are offered.

This is an intermediate-level tournament.

Entry fees are $38.13 for singles and $66 per doubles team. There is an event limit of one singles and one doubles, or two doubles.

SUPER GIRL

Friendswood’s Erica Jessel advanced to the girls 12-and-under singles A east draw final at the Katy Super Championship Excellence tennis tournament.

Jessel, seeded No. 4, won three rounds before losing to Houston’s No. 1-seeded Victoria Zhau 6-2, 6-4.

Earlier, Jessel defeated Richardson’s Sasha Motlagh in the round of 16, 6-1, 6-1, and Frisco’s Skylar Moody in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-3, before upsetting Houston’s No. 2-seeded Ibifuro Clement in the semifinals, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

MOSS SQUARED

Friendswood’s Elle Moss grabbed runner-up honors in the girls 14s singles white division at the Westside Lexus & Northside Lexus Houston Tennis Association October Challenger 1-Day tournament.

At the same time, Friendswood’s Elaina Moss was reaching the semifinals.

Both Mosses eventually lost to Spring’s Oyku Saracoglu.

Elle Moss, seeded No. 1, won three times en route to the championship match, following a first-round bye with a 5-3, 4-2 quarterfinals win over Houston’s Mae Montgomery.

Later, in the semifinals, Elle Moss defeated Katy’s No. 4-seeded Madelinh Vo 4-2, 5-3. But in the final she dropped a 4-0, 4-0 decision to Saracoglu.

As for Elaina Moss, the No. 3 seed, she won twice before falling victim to Saracoglu 4-1, 4-0.

En route to the semis, Elaina Moss received a bye, then beat Katy’s Saanya Sehgal in the quarterfinals, 4-1, 4-0.

SILVER LINING

Friendswood’s Matthew Fuhr placed second in the boys 16s singles at the Missouri City Community Tennis Association October Tournament.

Fuhr, seeded No. 2, won two rounds before losing to Sugar Land’s No. 1-seeded Juan Forero in the championship match, 6-4, 6-2.

Fuhr started off with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Houston’s Alex Lamprecht in the quarterfinals, then eased past Houston’s Jonathan Lu in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2.

GOLF ANYONE?

The Texas Tennis Coaches Association’s annual convention in December offers local coaches a chance to play on Horseshoe Bay Resort’s famed golf courses.

Registration deadline for the convention is Nov. 1, but those interested in playing in the golf tournament have until Nov. 27 to sign up.

The convention is set for the weekend of Dec. 1-3. Patrick McEnroe will be the keynote speaker and clinician.
