Both the Texas Southern baseball and softball programs had tough week's last week, mustering just one win combined.


The Texas Southern Lady Tigers had just one game this past week against the University of Houston Lady Cougars on the Lady Tigers' opening day.

The Lady Tigers came out on the losing end of the game, 2-0.

The Lady Cougars scored both of their runs in the sixth inning. The first run was scored on a home run by third baseman Sara Queen to center field. The second run came on a Tierrah Williams' RBI single up the center of the diamond that scored Kaylin Crumpton.

The Lady Tigers' Jasmin Fulmore was the losing pitcher. She gave up seven hits, allowed two runs, and didn't have a strikeout.

The Lady Cougars' Savannah Heebner threw a one-hit ball game with 12 strikeouts. The first baseman for the Lady Tigers, Sierra Valdez, got the lone hit.

The Lady Tigers have four games this week. The first two will come in a doubleheader with Texas A&M Corpus Christi at home.

The Lady Tigers will then open up SWAC play on the road against Alcorn State. The Lady Tigers were selected to win the West division of the SWAC this season as they did last season.


The Tigers had four games scheduled this past week, but their last game against Southern was canceled due to the weather.

The Tigers lost two of their three games on the week. The craziest lost for the Tigers was their first game against Southern.

The Tigers gave up seven runs in the last three innings after they were up by six runs heading into the seventh inning.

The big inning for Southern was in the seventh inning when they scored six runs. In that inning, Southern didn't hit a home run and every hit was either single or a double.

The Tigers downfall was pitcher Darius Boykins. He pitched just one inning, but gave up three hits, four runs, and walked two batters.

The Tigers' Mason Furlong did his job, going five innings and giving up two runs, but the Tigers' bullpen didn't have his back, as they gave up seven runs in three innings.

The Tigers did get their revenge in the next game that they played against Southern defeating them, 8-1.

The Tigers' pitcher Aaron Solis went 7 1/3 innings. He gave up one unearned run, with three hits, and four strikeouts.

The Tigers' Christian Sanchez had a game to remember as he went 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI double to right field. The Tigers' Gaudencio Lucca had a home-run himself as well.

The Tigers' Aaron Solis and Christian Sanchez were named SWAC Players of the Week.

The Tigers' earlier loss in the week came to Stephen F. Austin, 9-4, on the road.

The Tigers gave up five runs in the second inning and was never able to recover from such a deficit.

The Tigers' best pitcher of the game was Peyton Schneider. He went four innings, giving up three hits and no runs.

Despite the loss, the Tigers' Horace LeBlanc III had an outstanding game. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a base on balls.

This week, the Tigers have five huge games against big competition. The first two games are against the Oklahoma Sooners on the road.

The next three are against their arch-rival, the Prairie View A&M Panthers. This series will be the Tigers' first home series of the season and their second series facing a SWAC opponent. The Tigers are going to have to start winning games in they want to win the conference. The Tigers currently have three wins on the season.
