ALVIN — Galveston College softball pitchers Brooke Seneshen and Laci Belovsky shut down the Alvin Community College offense on Wednesday, combining to allow only five hits in a doubleheader sweep of the Dolphins.
Seneshen tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener, giving up three hits with three strikeouts and a walk in a 2-0 victory.
The Whitecaps had nine hits in Game 1 but struggled to bring runners across home plate. Galveston got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single from Ally Johnson, who also tripled in the game, and plated its second and final run in the fourth when Alexa Solomon scored on an error.
Savannah Martin and Cally Newsome each had two hits for the Whitecaps.
Belovsky kept Alvin’s bats quiet in Game 2, giving up one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks in a 4-1 victory.
The Whitecaps took an early lead with a pair of runs in the first, one scoring on a Johnson single and the other on an error. Johnson had two hits in the game.
Alvin got its only run of the doubleheader on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the opening frame.
Galveston added a run after Marina Rios scored on a wild pitch in the third, and Rios smacked a one-run double in the fourth to cap the scoring. Rios went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The Whitecaps (30-16 overall, 19-3 Region XIV), ranked ninth nationally in the latest NCJAA softball poll, finish the regular season Tuesday with an away doubleheader against Angelina College in Lufkin.
