A. Qualifications: For the past twelve years I have represented this community’s core values on the State Board of Education. I am a parent a self-employed businessman and a taxpayer. Served as chairman of the committee which oversaw approval and implementation of three charter schools in Galveston County.

A. True Local Control: Where teachers are free to teach the curriculum — not forced to teach the TAKS test.

Common Sense Reform: Proven methods — not fads. Fought to ensure that young students memorize their multiplication tables rather than rely on calculators. ...

Rigorous Standards: Made curriculum standards more rigorous. Returned phonics grammar and spelling to the study of English. Forced changes to health textbook standards that previously ignored parental involvement and authority. ....

Protect The Permanent School Fund For Future Generations: I will continue to work to ensure that our children’s textbook fund is invested safely and steers clear of risky ventures.

School Choice: Parents have the right to send their child to the school of their choice using their tax dollars.

Science Curriculum: Next year our Board is embarking on a two-year process of updating the science curriculum. Liberals are already looking to remove language that ensures that all students learn the difference between fact and theory. ...
