I cannot believe that people think Trump and the Republicans are doing the right things. Have they read what they plan to do to our health care? Do they know people that depend on Medicaid? I know two.

One worked well into her 70s. Now she is 84 and depends on Medicaid for doctor visits and medications. She lives on Social Security, but cannot even pay all of her rent so her children help her. She is an active member of our community.

The other is a lady that went blind from severe diabetes. She still lives alone and Medicaid pays for a provider to help her a few times a week. It also pays for her doctor visits and meds. Of course, her friends help her get to the grocery store, doctor, etc.

What will happen to these two and many like them when Medicaid is phased out? The Republican plan also wants to raise the price of health insurance on the elderly. That's a lot of us! That's the men and women that fought America's wars and worked their whole lives. Is that fair?

Wake up people. Read and watch the news.

Maybe it is the progressive demon-crats that need to wake up after all of the damage that you all have done in the past10 years.... Where does it say in our Constitution that anyone has the right to free healthcare???? Where in our Constitution does it say that we have a right to free groceries, a place to stay and our utilities paid.... That doesn't even talk about the progessives free telephone that I am paying for.... Like I said at the first.... Maybe the progressive demon-crats need to wake up....

A lot of things happen in this country that aren't mentioned in the Constitution, so the main point of your diatribe isn't even relevant.

And lighten up, fella. You sound like a nut. [cool]

Doyle Beard

PD keep telling the truth, libs cant stand the truth

Carlos Ponce

" so the main point of your diatribe isn't even relevant." VERY relevant , Steve, The Constitution is the basis of Federal law in this land. By extending Federal authority and "entitlement" legislation the government has grown. Unless there is a Constitutional basis, Federal government should be limited because those powers and duties are reserved to the states and to the people. Or do you think the United States Constitution is an irrelevant rag, subject to the whim of those in power? If so we have NO LAW. Carter, Bush, Obama, Trump, any president can do anything they want outside the Constitution by that way of thinking.
I know this man, he is not a nut.

Steve Fouga

I agree with most of what you wrote, Carlos. But are you saying that Federally provided health insurance is unconstitutional? That it is prohibited by the Constitution? If so, why isn't that the basis of the Republicans' attack on Obamacare? Why are they trying to replace it with a different, but still Federal health care law?

PD Hyatt may not be a nut, but he does sound like one. What's this Demon-crats stuff?

Carlos Ponce

He's being nice in not using the common "Demon-rats". [wink]

Doyle Beard

Demon-crats? Come on, man.

Free telephones? Christ almighty.

Relax, PD. You're gonna burst a blood vessel.

Elouise Lawrence, Elouise Lawrence, you are worried and upset about many things. Sit back and wait until the legislative process runs its due course. All things you mention will be addressed. Now sit back and watch "I'm just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyeJ55o3El0
Bill: I'm just a bill
Yes, I'm only a bill
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee
But I know I'll be a law someday
At least I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still just a bill
Boy: Listen to those congressmen arguing! Is all that discussion and debate about you?
Bill: Yeah, I'm one of the lucky ones. Most bills never even get this far. I hope they decide to report on me favorably, otherwise I may die.

And die you will, Mr. Bill. Die you will. Oh no, Mr Billll!!!! Ha!

Lots of work to be done but they are not off to a good start. Could the ACA be here to stay? Wouldn't that be a riot?

Mrs. Lawrence is the victim of the spin that the so called media put out everyday. Isn't that their job? To scare elderly folks so they can be swayed to the Democrat party? This is the way they work. Hope the left feels really good about scaring ladies. But hey, they will do and say anything to gain power.

Andy Brown
Andy Brown

She is sharing stories of her friends and what they are going through. How is that spin?

George Croix

Was Barack Obama the right choice?

Mike Zeller

Most people thought he was the right choice. TWICE![beam]

Doyle Beard

That was many moons ago

George Croix

fair enough from that standpoint, but I didn't ask what most people thought, I asked whether he was the right choice.
From the standpoint of the country's betterment, not personal gain....?
If he WAS, then how did Hillary lose?

It's a serious question.
We had a guaranteed third term of Pres. Obama by simply electing Hillary, so why'd she lose...?
Pres. Trump may turn out to be worse for the country's health that Obama did...imho...but we won't know that for another 200 or so weeks....not 9.....if we are looking at results, and not just WAGing......

Steve Fouga

George, you've gotten at an issue I have with GDN's title policy, that is, the title often doesn't match the intent of the letter.

Whether President Trump was the right choice isn't the main point of the letter; it's whether we agree with what he's doing, which is MUCH more relevant now that he IS the president. And yet the title has to do with the choice.

Personally, I wish we'd get past the notion that he might have made the wrong choice; it's the choice we made.

Steve Fouga

"We," not "he." Although that's an interesting question too, and one I bet he asks himself every day. [unsure]

George Croix

I know we are just cutting off noses to spite faces to hope...hope...for failure, even work hard to try and make that happen, when the country simply can't afford to be any less unstable than it is, financially or emotionally.....
I thought Barack Obama was the absolute pits as a President, but never hoped the country would suffer for it just to make him look even worse.....
But, then I never wore any artificial genitals on my head, screamed into somebody else's face with a bullhorn, or ran around burning cars and breaking windows, either.....
I guess I missed out on all the fun.....

Doyle Beard

george add someone who thought about blowing up the whitehouse.

Doyle Beard

Elouise you mean the fake news. come on.
