So this newspaper sees fit to post an obvious joke or pun in the opinions section? Useless!!

Randy Chapman

It's no more useless than the "official" opinions of the paper on social subjects. Smile and move on...you had to smile, right?

Trying to minimize the Trump administrations' traitorous ties to Russia is the serious event here..

"Traitorous ties to Russia." Yes, they're being revealed as we post. Hillary's traitorous ties to Russia.

The USA is a small fish in the World market for uranium.Think of Uranium One's share as 2 percent of 2 percent. Or 0.04 percent of world production. How much of that production from Uranium One's has left the USA, for Russia? Some did go to Canada for processing ,then was sent back. Hope the investigation starts soon, so this can be put to bed, one way or the other.
If no investigation happens , it would be a indication that it is a none story, as the GOP has it in their ballpark.
The Russians have no need for more highly-enriched uranium , as they have sent some that was blended, to the USA!

The U.S. is a tiny player in the world uranium market. The U.S. produced 1,126 tons of uranium last year out of global production of more than 62,000 tons, according to the World Nuclear Association. So U.S. production is less than 2 percent of the global total.
Uranium One produces a small and dwindling amount of that U.S. figure. Last year, it mined just 23 tons in the U.S. — about 2 percent of the small U.S. production.
Think of Uranium One's share as 2 percent of 2 percent. Or 0.04 percent of world production.
Some of Uranium One's U.S. uranium has gone to Canada and Europe. But there is no evidence that any of it has gone to Russia.
Rosatom's more likely motivation for purchasing Uranium One was to gain access to the company's far larger uranium production in Canada and in Kazakhstan, which borders Russia.

The USA and the Russians have stockpiles of highly enriched uranium!
Neither the U.S. nor Russia needs highly enriched uranium for nuclear weapons. The countries have more than 4,000 deployed or stockpiled weapons each, far more than the rest of the world combined. Both still have leftover stockpiles of highly enriched uranium that date to the Cold War.

Russian sent highly-enriched  uranium that was blended-down  to U.S. nuclear power plants.
Both the United States and Russia, for some time, have had self-imposed moratoria on the production of weapons-grade nuclear material," said Kingston Reif, director of disarmament at the Arms Control Association in Washington, D.C. "Despite this, both the United States and Russia remain awash in highly-enriched uranium."
Under a program known as Megatons to Megawatts, Russia reduced its excess by dismantling nuclear weapons and sending the blended-down uranium to U.S. nuclear power plants.
"About 10 percent of U.S. electricity was coming from dismantled Russian nuclear warheads that used to be pointed at the United States,"

Carlos Ponce

The uranium from Uranium One went to Canada, Europe and Asia. This despite the United States having to IMPORT uranium to meet its needs for reactors and weapons.
STUPID DEAL to give Russians control over 20% of the uranium in this country.

Jim Forsythe

United States  IMPORTNG uranium had nothing to do with Uranium One or us not have enough to meet our needs.
The Megatons to Megawatts program was put in place in 1993 and Uranium One did not started in 2010 . Both the United States and Russia remain awash in highly-enriched uranium . We did not import uranium to meet our needs , but to reduce the amount of highly-enriched uranium in the rest of the world. We have more than enough to fill our needs.

Last year, Uranium One mined just 23 tons of high enriched uranium , compare it to the 500 tonnes of Russian warhead grade HEU  we Imported, just to take the HEU off the world market. The U.S. produces about 1,100 tons of uranium a year, and have a large amount in storage.
The Megatons to Megawatts program was initiated in 1993 and completed on schedule in December 2013. A total of 500 tons of Russian warhead grade HEU (equivalent to 20,008 nuclear warheads)  converted in Russia to nearly 15,000 tons tons of LEU (low enriched uranium) and sold to the US for use as fuel in American nuclear power plants. The program was the largest and most successful nuclear non-proliferation program to date. The first nuclear power plant to receive low-enriched fuel containing uranium under this program was the Cooper Nuclear Station in 1998. During the 20-year Megatons to Megawatts program, as much as 10 percent of the electricity produced in the United States was generated by fuel fabricated using LEU from Russian HEU.
During this period, on a comparatively modest basis, the US government has also been converting some of its excess nuclear warhead HEU into power plant fuel. Efforts have also been undertaken to demonstrate the commercial feasibility of converting warhead plutonium into fuel to augment nuclear fuel for US power plants.

Reply to Carlos.
What's amazing, with the investigation going on now,it is not enough for you.
The results from the  investigation, should clear it up, one way or the other.

Add the  500 tons of Russian warhead grade HEU  to the 550 metric tons of "yellowcake" from Saddam Hussein's nuclear program
plus our stockpile, we have no need for more! Russia can not import our uranium because it has no license, so the idea that our uranium from Uranium One, is in Russia, is wrong.

None of the uranium is now Russia.
Russia doesn’t have the licensing  to export uranium outside the United States, , "so it’s somewhat disingenuous to say this uranium is now Russia’s, to do with what it pleases." The Kremlin was likely more interested in Uranium One’s assets in Kazakhstan, the world’s largest producer

The Megatons to Megawatts program :
Since 1995, the Program has successfully reduced the dual risks of nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism by confirming the elimination of large stocks of excess materials from nuclear weapons. The 500 MT HEU transparently eliminated under the Agreement is substantially greater than the planned total of all other major worldwide fissile material reduction initiatives combined.
The HEU Transparency Program translates nuclear arms reductions into strengthened nuclear material security, as materials from Russian nuclear weapons dismantled under bilateral arms control agreements are transparently and permanently eliminated rather than stockpiled

Beside the The Megatons to Megawatts program, we also were able to obtain the  last major remnants of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program - a huge stockpile.
July 5, 2008
The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program - a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.
The removal of 550 metric tons of "yellowcake" - the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment - was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.

"Over 90% of uranium purchased by U.S. commercial nuclear reactors is from outside the U.S."

We have enough? No. Not with all the nuclear vessels, power plants, and weapons.

Jim Forsythe

The results from the investigation going on now, should clear it up, one way or the other.

We have extra nuclear weapon grade uranium that we are converting it to use in reactors and such .
Did any of the Uranium One uranium end up in Russia. If not , imports have nothing to do with Uranium One deal.

An important source of nuclear fuel , is the world's nuclear weapons stockpiles. Since 1987 the United States and countries of the former USSR have signed a series of disarmament treaties to reduce the nuclear arsenals of the signatory countries by approximately 80 percent.

Craig: [Says the guy who believes without question and runs around repeating the BS he hears on Thom Hartmann's radio show and doesn't have the knowledge to evaluate.]

I have no idea who you are talking about. I've heard his name but never listened to or read him. I listen mostly to classical music. I find it less distracting when I am reading. There is a lesson here if you are open to it, however. If Thom Hartmann is coming to the same conclusions I am, enough to convince you, then maybe there is something to our conclusions.

Carlos: Little Marky needs to keep up with the news -the REAL news.

Poor Carlos reduced to bottom of the barrel nonsense to defend your goofy wingnut claim. Your proof consists of Rupert Murdoch's conservative NY Post rehashing long rebutted non-stories then conflating them. Next you have an anti-Hillary screed by David Bossie, a Deputy Campaign Manager to the Donald Trump presidential campaign. Then a story that debunks your claim and assigns sale of nuclear fuel to the Committee on Foreign Investment. And lastly you embarrass yourself with an idiotic claim from Sean Hannity.

Carlos Ponce

No, Little Marky. TRUTH! If you believe that stuff from the Liberal media outlets then that's you're business but it's far from TRUTH. Change your avatar. Instead of "FACTS" it should read "Liberal talking Points." And try to disprove Sean Hannity. You can't.

Mark Aaron

Carlos: [ If you believe that stuff from the Liberal media outlets then that's you're business but it's far from TRUTH.]

We have had this conversation too many times, Carlos. I have patiently explained the difference between biased and objective media to you. Why do you repeatedly pretend we never had the conversation? You don't get to pretend all media is Liberal.

==> [ Change your avatar. Instead of "FACTS" it should read "Liberal talking Points." And try to disprove Sean Hannity. You can't.]

Aha, so that's where you are getting your goofy apologia/talking-points from. That explains a lot. You really are scraping the bottom of the barrel for credible sources there, aren't you. If you can't see through his specious bull you really are a gull.

Jim Forsythe

If Hannity had anything to support his theory , I hope he would have shared it with police.

"a case of robbery gone awry"
For days, Hannity, and Fox News had aggressively pitched the theory DNC staffer Seth Rich’s murder was ordered by political operatives, aka Democrats, in retaliation for leaking DNC emails to WikiLeaks. Police have said Rich’s unsolved murder was a case of robbery gone awry.
Fox News retracted the story on Tuesday, explaining in a statement about the article it had up for days: “The article was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require from all our reporting.”

Carlos Ponce

Jim, it is not "Hannity's theory". It is evidence revealed by investigative reporters working for "The Hill" " (John Solomon) and "Circa" (Sara Carter)

Sean Hannity just provided network coverage for these reporters.
Republican Lawmakers in the House of Representatives launched two new investigations this week, focusing on the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified intelligence as well as the Obama administration’s controversial Uranium One deal. House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes announced the dual investigations on Tuesday, saying “We’re not going to jump to any conclusions, but we’re going to try and get the facts.”

Jim Forsythe

For Hannity to say that the conspiracy theory about Seth Rich is true, without proof, is bad investigative journalism.

The investigation going on, is looking into Uranium One.
Jim Forsythe Nov 9, 2017 9:40pm .
The results from the investigation going on now, should clear it up, one way or the other.

Carlos , you believe this?
6/23/17
Hannity’s most audacious and costly foray into conspiracy theory came last month, when he insisted that Seth Rich, an employee of the Democratic National Committee, killed last summer while walking home from a bar at night in Washington, D.C., had been the victim of dark leftist forces. Hannity only dropped the story after intense pressure from Fox News, with some speculating that he was on the verge of losing his job

If you believe the above, then you also believe this.
Multiple agencies involving hundreds of separate government actors are working together, you see, to deceive the American people, advance false narratives, and bring down a president. It’s the world’s greatest con, and Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, and Geraldo Rivera are the only ones brave enough to ask the right questions. They’re the only ones bold enough to confront the fake-news media, to do the hard work of investigative journalism, and bring the dark truth to the nation.

For Trump’s most loyal defenders (and Hannity certainly fits that bill), the story has an obvious appeal. It’s a dramatic and lurid misdirection, one that even the writers of House of Cards would find far-fetched, and it has the benefit of tricking gullible Trump supporters into further mistrusting the media. After all, the real story is over at Gateway Pundit or at Breitbart or Drudge, or on Fox News at 10:00 p.m. The true facts are known only to those who can perceive the pure evil of the Clintons, the deep state, and the rest of the establishment media.

Carlos Ponce

Looks like Jim is going fishing for red herring.

Have evidence of that do you? Why are you keeping it secret from the rest of the world?
