The tree stories columns in The Daily News are some of my favorites. I have learned so much about our Galveston trees and how to care for them, as well as some helpful "what not to do" advice.

The latest piece, by Margaret Canavan, about saving the trees in the new city park and moving them in the proper way so they can survive ("Trees are proof that we can learn from history," The Daily News, Oct. 23) really struck me as such a positive story (seems we don’t have enough of those lately).

I was particularly pleased that someone thought to save the trees before the bulldozers pushed them down. All too often we see the destruction of an old tree and mourn for its disappearance and think, "if only we had known, we could have saved it."

Well, these were saved and this Galveston resident is very happy! Thanks for that splendid column.
