Again and again, porta-cans and restrooms are scarce along the Texas City Dike and maybe there is one on the Skyline levee.

We, the Texas City citizens, wonder why it takes so long for the city to address a major necessity missing along the dike, which we proudly advertise as a tourist attraction.

People from all over come to visit the dike and neighboring areas to fish, boat, hang glide, wind sail and surf — and there are no decent bathrooms. I ask again, why not?

Where is the $5 fee being used that is charged per car?

There are enough trash cans, police, game wardens, tickets written and city workers, but nowhere to go to the bathroom. The few that are out there are disgusting, not clean, falling apart and do not have toiletries.

Every Fourth of July, Texas City hosts Tackle Time with fireworks and music, but no bathrooms. Please just build some decent ones.

I have an idea if you would like to hear it. Which city official would like to address this issue — parks and tourism or the mayor?
