Our Congessman Randy Weber, Councilwoman Terrilyn Tarlton and former City Manager Michael Kovacs are to be congratulated for their work on this long, drawn-out accomplishment.

All residents of Galveston Island who have a flood insurance policy will be appreciative when a 15 percent discount is factored into their premiums after May 1.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency concurred with the Insurance Service Organization’s recommendation to grant this first step in reducing flood insurance costs on Galveston Island. Keep in mind, with the proper city leadership we could eventually receive up to a 45 percent credit. Texas City currently enjoys that discount!

Henry Freudenburg is a former mayor of Galveston.
