Throughout the years, Heights Elementary School has celebrated Cinco de Mayo to symbolize the Mexican-American Heritage.

Our Cinco de Mayo program this year consisted of all our kindergarten through fourth grade bilingual classes performing to Mexican Folkloric Dances.

Mrs. Longs’ kindergartners danced to “La Bamba,” Mrs. Torres’ first graders danced “La Raspa,” Mrs. Martins’ second graders danced to “Jesusita en Chihuahua,” Mrs. Castellines’ third graders danced “La Culebra” and Mrs. Isams’ fourth graders danced a Mexican waltz called “Alejandra.”

We also had a great performance by Mariachi Raya from Texas City High School under the direction of Mr. Gumkowski.

We would like to thank Norma Huerta, Lisa Huerta, Lisa Lopez, Lupe Garza and the many friends who played a part in helping this program to be a big success.
