The City Council in League City voted 6-2 in support of a resolution that would prohibit city departments from cooperating with federal directives or requests to process or house undocumented immigrants.

I have to express my disappointment at the city of League City and Galveston County leaders for their decision to pass an inhumane, fear-based resolution that is a political game in reaction to the federal government.

At the City Council meeting Tuesday night, the language of the resolution and council members who are supporting the measure was based in negativity — aliens rather than refugees and Islamic terrorists rather than simply terrorists. It also seemed purposely stated to create fear in the citizens rather than care and compassion for our neighbors to the south.

Please know that not all citizens of League City and Galveston County support this position, and many are dismayed at this type of reaction. We celebrate such responses as Judge Clay Jenkins in Dallas County, who is working with nonprofits and the feds to support a humanitarian response to a crisis primarily affecting women and children.

Thank heavens there are still decent caring people among us and in leadership. Thanks to Dennis OKeefe and Joanna Dawson on the League City City Council for not caving into the madness.
