I am a native Houstonian transplanted in Colorado. I grew up escaping to your beautiful beaches. Today is one of those days I wish I had the option to hop on the freeway and head to Galveston. I'm so thankful for the online webcams where I can see the seawall.

I am sure there are many of you who resent the weekend crowds on your beaches, but let me stand up and say “thank you.” Thank you for sharing your beautiful island and ocean with us.

I recently read a study out of Michigan State that found a link between health and the visibility of water, which the researchers call blue space. The researchers claim, “Increased views of blue space is significantly associated with lower levels of psychological distress.” Geographical medicine for the soul.

This winter, instead of just peeking into your world via the online webcams, I also wanted to say thank you. I'm watching you, Galveston, all the way from Colorado. Watching and wishing I could look out over your waters today. Please don't take your beaches and ocean for granted. Enjoy them, take care of them and please continue sharing them.
