Daily News readers sound off about the May election.
After completing 36 years as an elected member of the board of regents of Galveston College, I will step down in May. It is encouraging to learn that several Galveston residents are interested in this board of regents position.
Having known Michael Hughes for many years, I would like to explain why I feel he is the most qualified candidate for the position.
Hughes has a long association with the college. He and his entire family are alumni of Galveston College, and he has served as a board member of the Galveston College Foundation for the past several years.
He is knowledgeable about public entities, having been elected twice to the board of Galveston Independent School District and served one term as its board president. He has unique understanding of the connection between the two educational systems.
I encourage you to join me and vote for Michael Hughes for this board of regents position.
