The Court Appointed Special Advocate program began in Seattle in 1976. Superior Court Judge David Soukup recognized the need for an unbiased third party to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the judicial system. CASA is now in every state.

Galveston County began a CASA program in 1993 at the request of the family district judge. Galveston County must grow the program faster to meet the needs of the children in our county. CASA of Galveston County is beginning a new training class in May and volunteers are encouraged to apply and train for this very important opportunity.

A thorough background check is required of applicants. If interested, please contact Therese Cornwell at 409-572-2552 or tcornwell@rccgc.org.
