Federal, state and local taxpayers, pay $620 billion a year for 40 million independent school district students. A national average of $15,500 per student, not counting fundraisers and corporate grants. Before federal involvement our “world best” schools were “lowest cost."
Now, the most costly, they are ranked behind 34 developed countries. Controlled by tax and spend government bureaucrats, ISDs aren’t independent. Using less than $3,000 for each teacher and classroom leaves $12,500 for bureaucrats. Charter, private and faith based schools need less than $5,000 per student per year. Vouchers and tax credits of less than $5,000 could fund all students and double teacher pay.
