The only thing this resident of Texas is going to tell Sen. Cruz when he calls his office is to keep up the good work. It's called leadership. We grow our conservatives to have a mind of there own here, not like New Jersey's Gov. Christie who is just another party hack.

Lars Faltskog

Well, I happen to have respect for Gov. Christie. He doesn't "play" and helps the people, regardless of partylines. Sen. Cruz, on the other hand, is out of touch with the common people of Texas. Besides that, he's not even a Texan. He's a Canadian and easily could be questioned regarding his US citizenship, just as Obama was a few years ago.

But, at least our President was born in the US - Hawaii.

Gary Miller

Citizenship of Cruz has been confirmed by US courts.
I'm not sure Omama has been?

Gary Scoggin

What's the difference. Both were born on foreign soil to an American mother and non-citizen father. Must be tough to be a birther right now.

Mike Leahy

Leadership?? Absurd!

This clown used millions of $ of OPM to get elected, then goes to Washington where taxpayers like you and I pay him ridiculous amounts of money and benefits that we will never be able to touch for ourselves and he gets up in front of the US Senate and the cameras of the world's media and reads from... Dr. Seuss??

He is laughing at you as you support his personal circus.

Gary Miller

The OPM he used wasn't taxpayer OPM.
It was we the people money willingly donated by concerned citizens.

Senator Cruz is doing an excellent job. I am glad his detractors were NOT at the Alamo: "We're going to lose any way so why even bother" is their mantra. To go up against overwhelming odds is the true Texas spirit. And sverige, Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett were not born Texans either but they became Texas heroes.
I cringe every time I hear Obamacare is called the "Law of the Land" as cited by the left wing hypocrites. If it were the "law of the land" then it would apply to ALL Americans without exception or exemption. President Obama, his family and staff, all of Congress, the Supreme Court and their staffs are all exempt from this so called "Law of the Land". Reminds me of "Animal Farm" -"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." The only reason the leftist defend Obamacare is to support the President's Legacy.

Claudia Burnam

I voted for Senator Ted Cruz to represent me not the people of New Jersey! Keep up the good work senator!
I can't understand how you liberals/progressives can keep your heads in the sand and drink Kool-aid at the same time.

Gary Miller

Drinking cool aid with head in sand doesn't work. They ues coolaid for enemas.

I heard Cruz stumbled over the more difficult words in "Green Eggs and Ham". But, he had no problem pronouncing the word "mouse".

Mind of his own? More like a mind like the Koch Brothers.

Henry Homrighaus

Thanks New Jersey for your opinion be it ever so uninformed, erroneous and untrue. Cruz is a courageous politician who is doing exactly what he was elected to do unlike the minions in Washington who promise constituents one thing in the election and then do what will line their pockets in DC. Obamacare is a bad deal and everyone realizes it now even governments own accounting entity says it is unsustainable and it will ruin healthcare as we know it. Companies are already lowering hours, not hiring and streaming to the detriment of our employment for our citizens not counting the illegal immigrants they want to make citizens. This is the time to defund it and I predict that Rhino republicans who fail us now will pay the price in the future especially those working behind the scenes to undermine Cruz.

Lars Faltskog

Well, I just read that "chamber rules" already precluded this from being a true filibuster. He was supposed to stop at noon for a vote. Latest news says he finally shut his pie hole.

Carlos Ponce

Ironic that you of all people are waving the "Mission Accomplished" banner so early in the game. To quote President FDR, "We Have Only Just Begun to Fight", October 31, 1936.

George Croix

New Jersey?
Where's that?

George Croix

Stop Cruz?
Go for the big fish first.
Here's somebody who should 'stop' lying to us daily:
Moments ago I heard POTUS abandon his mantra that Obamacare would cut costs for all, and he replaced it with 'health care costs are growing at the slowest rate in years'.
Gotta love that spin.
As good an admission of failure of his 'signature achievement', before it's even rolling full blast, as I've heard yet.
No mention was made of health care costs decreasing because fewer people have jobs so have lost their private funded health care insurance. No sense letting facts get in the way of obfuscation.

This from Forbes:
"Last night, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services finally began to provide some data on how Americans will fare on Obamacare’s federally-sponsored insurance exchanges. HHS’ press release is full of happy talk about how premiums will be “lower than originally expected.” But the reality is starkly different.
Based on a Manhattan Institute analysis of the HHS numbers, Obamacare will increase underlying insurance rates for younger men by an average of 97 to 99 percent, and for younger women by an average of 55 to 62 percent. Worst off is North Carolina, which will see individual-market rates triple for women, and quadruple for men."

Consider, the foundation upon which Obamacare is built requires LARGE masses of young, HEALTHY, people to sign up for the government exchanges coverage, or the system will fail. It's a Social Security type Ponzi scheme that must have more people paying now for the fewer number using now.
Those same HEALTHY young people will also be able to demand insurance coverage anytime they need it, or want it. SO, this brilliant system MUST HAVE young, healthy people who will sign up en masse for coverage they don't need now, and can get whenever they want later, and pay a big premium for something they won't use, OR they can give the Feds a You're #1 salute and pay a 'tax' to the IRS that's way smaller than premiums cost.
For the ones not indoctrinated into the habit of being told what to think and do, the choice is simple:
Pay more.
Or pay less.
The only hope for the Admin. in the short term is their own lack of concern for honesty. The verification of eligibility of applicants for additional cost subsidies is NOT FUNCTIONAL at this time, so people will be allowed to apply based on the 'honor system', which of course works so well for the other entitlements.
This mess is a Great Big Attack on a Dog With a Helical Coil Wrapped Around a Central Axis.
No doubt The Takers will love it. The Makers, not so much.

Now, Cruz DID screw up. Rather than tilt at windmills, he should have done his politicking to get it passed that Congress and the Administration have to use what they are forcing on the rest of us. No 'waivers'. No 'exceptions'. No elitists telling us what's good for us, and avoiding it like the plague themselves.

Reckon why he didn't do that?
Think anybody would have gone along with it?

Gary Miller

Before making statements about Senator Cruz's attempts to protect America from a disaster you should understand.

Members of the House of Representives serve the people of their districts. They are the peoples representives. The only representives of people in congress.
They listened to the people and are trying do do what the people want.
Defunding Obamacare is what a majority, 245 to 189, of the people want.

Senators do not represent people. They serve their political party.
Some Senators don't like Cruz trying to represent people. Those Senators know a large majority of citizens want Obamacare (AKA affordable care act) repealed because it isn't affordable, wlll not do as promissed and is killing American jobs.
Senators believe their political party knows best and people don't know what they should really want.
The Democrat party supports Obamacare because it will expand their welfare bureaucracies. Welfare bureaucracies are the Democrat party.

Gary Miller

Can't be repealed because it's "the law of the land".
Slavery was the law of the land, so were Segregation and the Defence of Marrige act. They were also approved by SCOTUS.
Bad laws of the land are repealed because they are bad.
Obamacare is bad and must be repealed ASAP.

Gary Miller

Put it up to a vote.
Democrats are big on democracy.
Wouldn't letting citizens vote on Obamacare be democratic?
Or just too much democracy for Democrats.

Lars Faltskog

McCain is correct. Cruz was out of line comparing Obama law with some of Europe's "acceptance of Nazis" -

Gary Miller

I agree. Cruz shouldn't have insulted Nazis like that.

Dwight Burns

IHOG, better that you live today than in a time of McCarthism. I didn't think you would stup this low, but I see you have.

IHOG, you make President Woodrow Wilson (history reveals: was one of the racist President of all time..A member of the KKK) look good.

I guess the logical extension of this would be humor control legislation. Perhaps it might make sense to administer a test and issue a license before one can attempt to write humor. Bad or mistimed humor is like the squeeling chalk against the chalkboard.

Well, ! IHOG ! - you just made a testimonial on the virtues of true "democracy" (with a little 'd'). If it were up to simply a popular vote of the citizens, then Obama Care would be upheld. After all, the majority citizens' vote returned President Obama to the White House.

Gary Miller

Obama was re elected because Republicans noninated another "big government"
candidate. Romney might have been better than Obama but hiarder to get rid of.

Carlos Ponce

We really need to move up the Texas Presidential Preferential Primary and nominate a REAL conservative. Why should Iowa and New Hampshire pick the nominee? Romney was a nice guy but he spoke conservative with an accent. McCain also.

Jim Forsythe

I may be wrong but is't why we send them to DC. If we voted on every bill how would that work out?

Gary Miller

Senator Ried may have outsmarted himself this time.
If the Senate changes one word of the bill the House passed and sent to the senate they must send it back to the House.
The House can pass another Amendment and send it back to the Senate.
Suggestions are that Amendment would require everyone to be exempt from Obamacare or there could be no exemptions for anyone.
All Obamas 140 waivers would be repealed or it would be delayed until after the midterm elections. The Congress, white House, IRS, AARP, unions and his big donners would be subject to the law of the land.
Members of the House have alreadt drawn up the one page Amendment and can pass it in hours.
If Harry Ried or Obama don't accept the Amendment without changing a single word shutting down the government would be their responcibility.

Gary Miller

We didn't vote for Obamacare in 2012.
We had the choice of an empty suit or Mit Romney.
Mit Romney was unacceptable to 7 million conservatives who voted "down ballot" without casting any vote for president. They defeated 6,800 Democrats in cities, counties and states. The second worse defeat of liberals in U.S. history after the 2010 rout. BHO's coat tails were a wet blanket.

Liberals won the presidency but lost the election of government.
The federal government has 537 elected positions. 290 Republicans, 245 Democrats and 2 Independents.
The truth is Governors are more important than Presidents.
31 governors are Republican. 2 are Independent and 17 are Democrats.

Kevin Lang

How many Republican Governors does it take to get Obamacare voted down in the US Senate? How many Republican Governors does it take to get enough votes to override a presidential veto?

State government and Federal government are two different animals. Each very important within their own realms, however, their realms are different. We the people send 435 representatives, 100 senators, a vice president and a president to Washington for very good reasons. They have important jobs to do.

I think I understand your sentiment, though. I know much of it is driven more due to the political makeup of the Federal Government, but, I think the true fuel is that those 537 people are using politics as an excuse to not do their jobs. It's hard to consider them important when they refuse to do anything important.

Lars Faltskog

The electorate is fickle, we all know that. There are those like IHOG who proclaim they are die-hard conservative or die-hard liberal. Those types of folks are few and far between.

Electorate might vote republican for their state leaders (state representatives, governors, etc.), then turn around and vote democrat for US president. That's why we have our "toss up" battleground states.

The bottom line is that virtually all politicians, in my view, regardless of party - use the system as a career to boost their personal popularity. I propose that senators and representatives on both state and national level have term limits. End the career politics, end the pensions, et cetera.

Correction for IHOG. Yes, the electorate "voted for Obamacare in 2012", technically. The electorate voted Obama in the majority. The House/Senate sectors rallied to tip the passage of the bill in its favor. That's the result of our Republic: we elect the representatives, they vote according to their constituents.

If there were a popular vote today on Obamacare (not considering our senators/representatives), I believe it would still win a majority of votes. There's just way too many folks without adequate care. If the popular voters felt so strongly AGAINST Obama and his agenda, then Romney could have eeked out the presidency.
