In response to the story “Report: ‘Racial aspect’ to Trube’s comments” (The Daily News, July 1): Why would anyone want to close a library that is being used, if only by one group? Why would anyone want to make it difficult for those who have a desire to read? Why would anyone want to squelch the freedom to read?

I know nothing about the La Marque library today, although when Hitchcock had only weekly visits from the Rosenberg Bookmobile, we did check out books from that library.

I am happy to walk into Genevieve Miller Public Library in Hitchcock and see faces of all colors and ages. There is a wonderfully helpful staff that is happy to work with you to find any information needed.

I hope La Marque Library will survive.

Pat Thompson lives in Hitchcock.
