The county is, almost daily, correcting mistakes Yarbrough made when he was the county judge. As mayor he'll follow the same flawed path as when county judge. Using the city budget to create loyal Yarbrough voters.
When the city can no longer afford him who will correct his mistakes?
Much smarter to not elect him at all.

"We need to elect Jim Yarbrough, who knows the laws and will be an excellent mayor."

Not quite damning with faint praise, but close. I keep hearing about his ability to manage and knowledge of the law. Certainly decent points, but I'd prefer someone with a more vibrant vision. I'm frankly scared to death of him. He's the kind of guy Galveston voters tend to rally behind, because of the big name and the experience. I say his experience as a past County judge isn't as relevant as Elizabeth Beeton's recent experience on Council.

My biggest fear is his stance on public housing. In the GDN video forum, he almost came right out and said he was for it.

Whoever wins, hopefully the phrase 'inherited a mess' won't still be the operative excuse months or years later for no improvement, or worse.
It would be nice to see a return to citizens demanding that the people they elect actually solve the problems they were elected to solve, rather than give them another term to fail better.
Anyway, a wise old guy (actually, about 4 years older than me...[smile]) told me that you can tell a lot by how a man conducts himself at a dinner table, but you can tell more by who's at the table with him.

Yarbrough is the only clear choice for Mayor. He has what it takes to make it work and to improve this city to the point it should have been over the last several years while Beeton was in office causing problems and being Queen Beeton on council and expecting to be catered to. Mafrige is just a drain on the race and city. Yarbrough is the one for Mayor if you want a great city.

"He has what it takes to make it work" -- What's that? Please list 5 things he has to make it work.

"and to improve this city to the point it should have been over the last several years" -- Really? Please list a few improvements he would make. I listened to him talk at the GDN forum and hated much of his vision. Trolleys and elimination of parking on Seawall. Nonsense!

"while Beeton was in office causing problems and being Queen Beeton on council and expecting to be catered to." -- C'mon, dude! Beeton, Pappous and Tarlton were the only ones making sense!

"Yarbrough is the one for Mayor if you want a great city." -- Yarbrough is the one if you want public housing, is more like it...

George Croix

In case you missed it, Norman Pappous recently called the anonymous Runner troll out and challenged him/her/undecided to stop hiding and debate him in open forum on an issue(s) of choice.
The game ended without starting, though.
The final score was:
Pappous - two balls
Troll - three strikes
How 'bout that, sports fans...[smile]

I think I saw it, but didn't realize what I was seeing.

LOL!

Yarbrough is the one for Mayor if you want more of the same old, same old. He is backed by the same old, same old. And he would have a unique shot at actually being the CEO of the COG - very dangerous.

Let see,
Yarbrough as President of Citizen Bank, It went bankrupt.

Yarbrough as board director of Egle Broadband, it went bankrupt.

Yarbrough as County Judge a whopping $55,000,000 over budget. Ex: Justice Center and more

Yarbrough in 2010, look up the county's register “account payable” South Land Tile received millions.

The only thing he is good at is using taxpayers money.
