It’s hard to understand how a President who says he believes in God would allow the Food and Drug Administration to play God. Right now, the FDA is starting its process to consider approval of a biological procedure to create genetically modified humans. As we speak, Mr. Obama has not issued an executive order to stop the mad scientists at the FDA.

The FDA calls the proposed procedure “Mitochondrial Manipulation Technology.”

It’s really pretty easy to understand. Say a woman has a hereditary disease. They could remove from the embryo the bacon and grits and replace a new set of bacon and grits from a third-party donor. Therefore, the baby born would carry the genes from the donor, the mother and the father. A real triple play for genetically engineered humans.

I guess there’s a lot of stuff on the menu that could be replaced. I guess babies in the future could be born any way you want them. Humans are not lab animals and still deserve two parents.

When we start blending three or four parents, throw in a couple of floor jacks and robot parts, are we still human?

Obama will not interfere with the FDA.
They financed and voted for his election. He works for them. The FDA, FAA, DOJ, NSA, FBI, FCC bought him with votes and money.

Well ! IHOG ! -

Mr. Romney was a lot richer than BHO at election time. I wonder why the Mitts didn't coalition enough to "buy" the 2012 election, given he had even more resources to do so.

So my daddy may really be a floor jack?

Lars Faltskog

Robert Buckner:

Floor jack, yes. I always have had questions about your origins, now this explains a lot.

Lars Faltskog

Well, there are those individuals who are deathly afraid of the bio-manipulation going on with the farming business. That is, all of the genetic engineering/manipulations, in the goal to make products more transgenic so that animals and crops can be more disease resistant and such.

Does all this "engineering" cause folks to be more allergic? Does this practice encourage 2 headed calf births? Glow in the dark cats? I've read that they inject "environs" into pigs so that they digest better and poop less. So, the question would be if it's Obama's fault if something freakish were to occur as a result.

I remember this same argument back on July 25, 1978, when Louise Brown, the first test-tube baby was born. All they are doing is helping a woman with damaged mitochondrial DNA be able to have a baby who who be the genetic offspring of her and her husband. The resulting offspring will display no visible characteristics of the woman who donated her mitochondria to the procedure. Each cell in the offspring will have the donor's mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondrial DNA contains 37 genes, all of which are essential for normal mitochondrial function. Mitochondria produce energy through a process called oxidative phosphorylation. This process uses oxygen and simple sugars to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the cell’s main energy source. Think of it this way: It's mom's car, dad is driving it but the lady next door supplied the gasoline so you can drive it. And all gave their permission.

Robert Buckner

It's mom's car but is dad driving it or is he the floor jack changing the tire while the neighbor lady is buying gasoline and we all blame Obama, sverige, and Al Gore, who all blame it on W?

Lars Faltskog

Maybe the floor jack is driving the car.

All I know is if I could have 4 parents, I would want them to be Louis Jourdan (handsome), Bill Gates (genius billionaire), Diane Sawyer (attractive and smart), and Oprah Winfrey (influential, generous). But, as it is, my folks will have to "do".

Carlos Ponce

The mitochondrial donor DNA supplies NO traits to the offspring. Mitochondria merely supplies energy to the cells. Traits such as beauty and intelligence are obtained through DNA in the cell nucleus. Traits such as influence and generosity can be learned. None are obtained through the mitochondria. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Lars Faltskog

You're right, carlosrponce. In that case I wish Imogene Coca was one of my parents, and Ernest Borgnine too.

Lars Faltskog

Nice how you compared DNA cells with mitochondria. I bet you were a cool science teacher.

Robert Buckner

You're right sverige, we've got to play the hand we were dealt.

Carlos Ponce

That's just it. These ladies cannot conceive due to damaged mitochondrial DNA. You are saying "Tough luck, lady, you can't have a baby. Live with it." Right now they can help her with donor eggs. She would not be the genetic mother but her husband will be the genetic father. But she could deliver a baby. With this new procedure however, she will be the genetic mother and her husband will be the genetic father as far as nucleus DNA is concerned. And that's where you get your traits: hair and skin color, intelligence, eye color, etc. Mitochondria simply provides energy to the cells.
