It’s not breaking news — it’s the same story, just another chapter. Washington Park is still closed after Hurricane Ike and was in need of major repairs even before the storm.

Around May 15, 2013, the Galveston Rotary Club donated $100,000 toward the renovation of the park. According to an article in The Daily News (“Offatts overhaul: $2.45 million grant will build Jamail Bay Park,” Dec. 1, 2013), the Jamail Galveston Foundation gave the city of Galveston a grant for $2.45 million, providing the name be changed to “The Lee and Joe Jamail Bay Park,” for the needed renovations.

No biggie! Isn’t something better than nothing? We already have that!

Election time is here again, and I am convinced past city and county officials really aren’t that concerned about “The Gateway to Galveston.” I think it’s time to clean house — both county and city officials — and get a new team with fresh track shoes to run both.

Our present officials have all been involved and can’t seem to make things happen. We really need to think before we cast our vote. Do you want more of the same?
