Recently, NFL players began using their platform to highlight the injustices blacks are subjected to by officers who dishonor their pledge and badge. Some object to the athletes kneeling during the national anthem. I counter with they are embracing their constitutional right to peacefully protest.

Many say they should use an alternative platform to get their message out. I say "by whatever means necessary" as long as it is peaceful and does not cause physical harm.

Many of our laws are written for the majority. Once a minority begins using the benefit of that law, many in the majority shout "foul play." If many African-Americans began purchasing semi-automatic weapons, there would be a sudden call for stricter gun laws, which should happen anyway.

White supremacists have infiltrated our law enforcement community, if only to enforce their racist ideology. I sincerely support our men in blue and pray for their safe return home to their families at the end of their shift.

Too many of our black citizens are not being allowed that same privilege. Until then, NFL players and anyone else should "take a knee."

Wow! Where to start?

First, this was a succinct and well-written piece. Second, I agree that the athletes have the right to protest peacefully, no matter how objectionable it seems to some Americans.

Third, I believe the venue they chose is especially effective. After all, it has garnered much attention, pro and con. I do wish the protesters would make it clearer, VERY VOCALLY, what their protest is about, and emphasize they don't mean to disrespect the military. I bet that's the last thing they want to do.

Finally, white supremacists are everywhere there are white people. So in that sense I doubt they've "infiltrated" law enforcement. As a white person who has a lot of contact with white people, I believe they are a small minority.

"White supremacists have infiltrated our law enforcement community,"
One is too many and when exposed they have been ousted or arrested and charged. If their actions were illegal they now sit in jail. But many officers have been unduly lynched by media and activists being called "racist" even after vindication by a grand jury or a court of law.
"Hands up, don't shoot" was a LIE as according to African-American eyewitnesses to the events in Ferguson, Missouri. Yet we have Congressmen and Congresswomen going on the House floor proclaiming it as truth.
Before you second guess a grand jury, jury or judge remember this: They know more about each case than you. If found guilty let the officer suffer the legal consequences. If no billed or found not guilty, LET IT GO.
"Taking a knee is a constitutional right"? No, the Constitution only apples to GOVERNMENT actions.
"The fact is, these athletes do not have the 'right' to protest at football games unless their employers consent to the conduct. Their private employers have a legal right under the US Constitution to fire or suspend players who engage in acts of protest on the field during the playing of the National Anthem and the display of Old Glory."

I have rights also- I'm not a racist.
I will not watch a single NFL game until all the players. Stand for our
National Anthem. That's my right.
Right.........

Gary Scoggin

1. Free speech does not apply in the workplace. A football game is their workplace.

2. As Jarvis points out, I have freedoms, too. Including the freedom to choose what I watch on TV and which products I choose to buy.

The bottom line is that we have a bunch of whiny millionaires playing a children's game.

I don't care what they think, and neither should anyone else. It's not what they're paid to do, and most of them don't have a clue about the real facts.

Doyle Beard

Randy I could not agree more.

Emile Pope

They aren't paid to stand up for the anthem. They are paid to play football. Are they not doing that?

Carlos Ponce

Reasons they are paid to take a knee:
Stop the play so they won't get tackled or to run out the clock. Play resumes after that if time is left.
They are not paid to take a knee in protest. Fans do not care to see that.
If the NFL commissioner had any cojones he could have stopped this nonsense last year by levying a fine as prescribed by the NFL game operations manual. Would that have lost any ticket sales, TV ratings or advertisers? Doubt it.

Doyle Beard

Another misinformed about doing your thing a your workplace. I don't believe anyone is against peaceful protest. My contention is I believe we should honor the heroes who gave us ths priviledge. Whats wrong with a couple moments of respect?
No matter what one believes the Anthem is the method we have used to honor these men and women. Its total disrespect not to do so. Without them where would America be?There is a time and place for protest and protest all you want but don't tread on the honor of these men and women. Its a shame but most of these protestors making millions want to stay here. America is not perfect but where would all these primma donnas want to live except America. How about a couplemoments of respect for the people who gave us the greatest gift they can give and many gave their life to do so. Stand up and show some respect.

Emile Pope

"No matter what one believes the Anthem is the method we have used to honor these men and women". Totally false. That's the invented reason given to justify intolerance to dissent.

The author writes: “I counter with they are embracing their constitutional right to peacefully protest.”

The abject lack of understanding of the Constitution by US citizens such as Ms. Murphy is nothing short of dreadful. No serious person questioned their “constitutional right to peacefully protest.” The government wasn’t coming to the stadium to arrest the protesters. Congress didn’t pass a law prohibiting protest. Your constitutional rights are vis-à-vis the government – not your employer and not other citizens.

The author continues: “Many say they should use an alternative platform to get their message out.”

And guess what Ms. Murphy, that is their Constitutionally protected right of free speech. As abhorrent as it is to you liberals, Constitutional rights also apply to those you don’t agree with.

The author continues: “If many African-Americans began purchasing semi-automatic weapons, there would be a sudden call for stricter gun laws, which should happen anyway.”

This is a bald-faced leftist lie. The NRA and other gun right groups have been arguing for decades that restrictions on 2A rights disproportionately affect minorities. Conservatives champions the rights of ALL Americans under the 2A. On the other hand, the left has been systematically oppressing minorities for decades, and the idea of minorities arming themselves scares the heck out of the left – not the right. The most insidious racism in the country exists solidly on the left.

The author continues: ” White supremacists have infiltrated our law enforcement community, if only to enforce their racist ideology.”

So you want to disarm law-abiding minorities and further swing the balance of power towards those you believe to be oppressors? Sound like a pretty supremacist attitude you have Ms. Murphy.

Rose is living proof that racism still exists. Her comment reeks of hate, bigotry, and an ingrained intellect that’s trained to divide and separate, not unify and heal. On the upside it’s been liberating to not give a flip about the NFL and turn it OFF. No more wasted Sunday’s in front of the TV, no more staying up late on Monday nights....no worries about the Texans. Total apathy for the NFL is becoming glaring obvious through all of the fans disguised as empty seats. Maybe these NFL bozo’s won’t be millionaires for long!

Craig Lindberg

Leftism 101 - accuse your enemy of exactly who you are. Leftists and liberals are the biggest, most evil, racists in this country, and their primary tool for hiding in plain sight is the race card.

I just discovered by Bob Beckel, a Liberal pundit on FOX News was fired. He made some racist remarks off camera about an African American employee according to the Los Angeles Times.
http://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-beckel-fox-20170519-story.html
Too bad. I liked Bob Beckel. He was the only one on "The Five" who appreciated good music. His politics however fit his role on FOX to provide the Leftist view.

Carlos Ponce

Change to "I just discovered why Bob Beckel, a Liberal pundit on FOX News was fired."

Reply to Murphy. Your public school education failed to teach you about the Bill of Rights. There is no freedom of speech right at your place of employment. Also all citizens are entitled to defend them selves with a gun. That includes all Minorities.
If Blacks buy guns they will be encouraged to buy more and learn how to use them. The NRA will gladly provide them a use and safety education just as they do for most law enforcement and the military. Free or very near free just as they do for all citizens. It's part of their mission.

Today is Veteran's Day, a day we set aside to thank those who have put their lives on the line, or made the ultimate sacrifice, in the defense of our Republic. Today we say "Thank you for your service."

It Has Always Been The Soldier

It is the soldier,
not the President who gives us democracy.

It is the soldier,
not the Congress who takes care of us.

It is the soldier,
not the Reporter who has given us Freedom of Press.

It is the soldier,
not the Poet who has given us Freedom of Speech.

It is the soldier,
not the campus [community] Organizer who
has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag;
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
that allows the protester to burn the flag.

George too bad the news media including the Galveston News would not print this on the front page of every paper in America. This does not fit their Agenda.

To Mrs Murphy! Did you take time to understand the Bill of Rights? It's a list of things government can't do. Government can't establish a religion, It can't tell you what to say or not say. It can't compel you to testify against yourself or seize your property without fair compensation. All ten Amendments of the Bill of Rights are your protection against government. Not a forum for over priveleged million airs to whine.

David Doe

If sitting or kneeling (which is disrespectful) is a Constitutional Right, why did the NBA tell players they can NOT do it? Why did my boss tell us that we can NOT Protest on company time? Why hasn't the black community said a WORD about the 3 athletes in China that were Caught stealing? Is that a miscarriage of justice? Where is hollywood on this? Is that a Constitutional right as well? Blacks have an issue with "NO", and it's been this way for decades. Whites are sick and tired of the double standard. Blacks steal rape and pillage and then complain when they are incarcerated. Whites do the crime and we say do the time. Teach your children right from wrong, no means no and to Respect the Law and the Police. Until then you have lost the narrative and most of the Law Abiding public.
Pathetic!
