Gean Leonard is a “The Daily News” treasure. His columns are always informative and amusing. “Start with something funny,” (The Daily News, April 18) was just another of many examples of his nimble and eclectic mind at work.

His writing of trick shot artists reminded me of Butch Harmon and his time as head pro at the Texas City “muni.” Butch was also a trick shop artist. During my time at Dickinson Independent School District, I attended an end of the year event for our coaching staff. Butch was at that event and put on an entertaining trick shot show. I remember him as a very engaging and gracious guest. It’s not surprising that he has become probably the most successful and sought after golf instructor in the USA.

Even though my “trick” back has taken me off the golf course after 65 wonderful years, I still enjoy reading about it and watching it. Thanks Gean for your weekly contributions to my enjoyment of the game.
