On March 29, the Galveston County Community Coalition of the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol and Center for Addiction Research at University of Texas Medical Branch, hosted its fourth annual town hall. The town hall aims to unite representatives from different sectors of Galveston County to increase protective factors and reduce risk factors related to substance use disorders.

This year, we welcomed Dr. Thomas McLellan to deliver our town hall address on the opioid epidemic in the United States. Dr. McLellan’s discussion with our community personifies coalition work. His “call to action” to utilize the neurobiology of substance use disorders to inform prevention policies and early intervention strategies speaks to the importance of community collaboration.

We applaud the efforts of our Galveston County Community Coalition and the Center for Addiction Research to address substance use disorders in our community. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended. We are overwhelmingly grateful for the support that we received from Galveston County and the surrounding areas.
