Just a note to convey a heartfelt thanks for two Texas City police officers, Joe Stanton and Jess Colwell.

The officers provided a funeral escort on March 3 for many American Legion Motorcycle Riders from Post 89 in Texas City to the Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque and then back to the post after the funeral.

Our fellow legion rider, Joe Crabill, who passed away, would have been embarrassed by all the attention paid to him, but he nevertheless was most deserving.

Officer Stanton and Officer Colwell were outstanding in their escort. Knowing it’s a challenge to keep a long string of motorcycles together while navigating through traffic, your officers kept us moving in a safe manner.

While at the funeral and after, all the riders talked about just how professional and efficient your two officers were.

They stopped traffic with one leading and the other sped up to block traffic at the next intersection and so on, until we arrived safely at our destination.

This is not the first time that the Texas City Police Department helped the American Legion Post 89 on our motorcycle runs, and we just wanted to say that we are grateful for your support and very much appreciate your helping us honor our fallen brother and legion rider.

Thanks for all you and your police force do.
