Democracy is gone

People in this country think we have democracy, but we don’t anymore. What little we do have is quickly eroding.

We think capitalism is so wonderful, but only 2 percent of the population controls our country and sends most of our business to other countries for cheaper labor.

Speaking of that, we have cheap labor here, too. Many people are not even making minimum wage. The cost of living has skyrocketed, but wages have not kept up, leaving many more people poor and having to work two or three jobs just to survive.

Then we have a Congress that does nothing except obstruct everything President Barack Obama tries to do. Congress is paid quite well — with many perks — and then its members take a recess from all the hard work they are doing.

Those same representatives who we elected to work for us continually downgrade the poor as good-for-nothings wanting only to live off the government. Really?

We need to make ourselves familiar with Thomas Paine’s writings about democracy and breaking away from an oligarchical form of government.

When those in Congress say they want less government, that is code for saying they want to privatize everything, leaving many — including a vast majority of seniors — on their own. Wake up and vote.
