On Saturday, a memorial statue depicting an infantry combat patrol will be dedicated at the Texas State Capitol to honor all Vietnam War veterans in Texas.

Included in the memorial are hand-embossed duplicated dogtags identifying each of the 3,417 Texans who gave their lives in Vietnam. Seventy-five of those men were from Galveston County. The event is free and open to the public.

I hope The Galveston County Daily News will publicize this event as we honor the Vietnam veterans and remember those individuals and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Information about the dedication is available on the memorial website at buildthemonument.org.
