In response to the article ("New ordinance could address vacant structures," The Daily News, Sept. 23): Hats off to Councilman Craig Brown! The neglected structures all around the island have been eyesores for many, many years.
It just shows that some people don't really care what the island looks like and have been neglecting buildings for years.
As long as there is no ordinance on the books, people like that will continue to use the loopholes in the laws to hire lawyers and continue to hold off spending the funds to properly deal with the dilapidated structures.
Such irresponsible property owners always say it's "not fair."
Take a good look around our island you will see many unusable structures that have been just waiting for the next storm to drop them to the ground.
I say go for it Councilman Brown and try your damnedest to improve the looks of our island.
