After several months of crippling snowstorms and flooding, I really look forward to spring weather, green grass and flowers in bloom.

The advent of spring is also a great opportunity to turn over a new leaf on our dietary and exercise habits. In fact, I’ve been told that hundreds of communities celebrate the advent of spring with something called the Great American Meatout.

Local health advocates host educational events where they ask visitors to get a fresh start this spring with a healthy diet of vegetables, fresh fruits, legumes and whole grains.

For those who need a little encouragement, the website provides useful information and a chance to pledge a healthy diet for one day or more.

For some reason right now I have a craving for a hamburger. Has Charlie's Burgers closed yet?

Robert Buckner

Lars, I'm thinking a ribeye steak this weekend for myself.

You guy's need to be more sensative. You left out the Chicken, Pork, Fish and other tasty critters.

I fear Charlie's Burgers is under new management. Sign I caught out of the corner of my eye while driving past the other day led me to think this but, I sure hope I am wrong.

Otherwise, I suggest a burger at Sonny's.

Personally, since I have no intention of trying to deny my carnivorous humanity, I am having steak tartar tonight!

I have an unfortunate amount of weeds in my lawn that would make a lovely salad for the meatout freaks...

Well, I've been needing to practice some music, so no better time than tonite. And now this comes to mind:

"Cheeseburger in Paradise" from Jimmy Buffett.

Robert Buckner

Maybe Buffet can write a new tune regarding tarballs with the incoming tide.

It's morning now, and since it is so - how about some huevos con chorizo?

Or maybe a ham and cheese omlette? Country sausage and gravy. Or how about a breakfast burrito?

I think you can have a burger from Charlie's and still be part of the meat out.
