The game has changed. The character of the players has changed.
When I grew up I was influenced by a book by Chicago Bears running back Gale Sayers titled "I am Third". Sayers's motto is, "The Lord is first, my friends are second, and I am third."
I am certain there are current NFL players who are of high moral character like Sayers but too many are not. The bar has been lowered. Growing up I admired the Dallas Cowboys under Tom Landry of Mission, Texas. Once Tom was replaced the team and the game were not the same. The character bar was lowered.
What is on the field looks like they graduated from Clown college. Over tattooed, long hair pouring out of their helmets and too much "showboating". Off the field we hear of wife and girlfriend abuse and other signs of a lack of moral character. Not all players, but too many.
The racial makeup of the NFL is not why fans are leaving the game they once loved. This taking a knee in protest is distasteful to many when done during the anthem. But it is but the latest symptom of the moral decline of the NFL. Not all the players mind you but of too many. The character bar is very low.
What is needed is an NFL guidebook on on what the league expects of each player's behavior off and on the field while in their employ. If the players follow these guidelines the fans will return. Currently they do not merit my time.

Y'all see any Russian trolls around here?

Little Marky, unless Russians usually buy NFL tickets and merchandise and watch NFL on TV the claim is totally BOGUS. Overall attendance is down, viewership is down for two straight years.

Mark Aaron

Carlos: [Little Marky, unless Russians usually buy NFL tickets and merchandise and watch NFL on TV the claim is totally BOGUS.]

From the Washington Post article:

_"Russian Internet trolls are trying to gin up even more controversy over NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem, a senator said Wednesday — warning that the United States should expect such divisive efforts to escalate in the next election."_

_"“We watched even this weekend, the Russians and their troll farms, and their Internet folks, start hash-tagging out ‘take a knee’ and also hash-tagging out ‘Boycott NFL,’ ’’ Lankford said._"

Steve Fouga

Carlos, can you prove the Russians aren't doing it?

Carlos Ponce

Steve, who cares? Do the empty seats reflect Russians not buying tickets? Do the lower viewership numbers reflect Russians not watching American football? The lower attendance and viewership started before the Russians did anything about it.

Mark Aaron

Carlos: [who cares?]

_"As Papa John’s evaluates NFL sponsorship, chain tells racists: Don’t buy our pizza

The full statement, received by The Huffington Post via email from the company’s senior director of public relations:

“We condemn racism in all forms and any and all hate groups that support it. We do not want these individuals or groups to buy our pizza.”_

Whats changed?
Footballl players using football to push their false narrative...
We turn on football to see a game .. not what your opinion is... on any subject... and no your not a hero.
Your getting payed to pay a game. ..keep your mouth shut and do your JOB..Your day in the sun will come and go and then it will be next man up.
.yes .. you have a right to your opinion...
You also have a right to the consequences
Its obvious they were never taught what it means to show Patriotism

Mark Aaron

David: [Whats changed? Footballl players using football to push their false narrative...]

What do you mean by "false narrative?"

==> [Its obvious they were never taught what it means to show Patriotism]

Do you really believe that to be true?

Mr Brown, you correctly stated that the NFL is 70% black. So, with that being said, is it worth it to the players to continue kneeling and jeopardize their job security for their cause? Is it the intent to make it difficult to find enough police officers to work the stadiums during the games? Officers who are protecting these kneelers as they play ball? Is it their intent to cause fans to stop buying tickets(and burn the ones they may have)and refuse to attend games? Is it their intent to watch sponsors pull out left and right? Is it their intent to cause ESPN to consider pulling out of their contract with the NFL and not show anymore football games? What is the benefit to these players by doing so? Social injustice? All I see is felons kneeling to defend other felons. What gave these kneelers done for their communities? Do they give back? Do they go into schools encouraging kids to stay in school and get an education so they can become a vital part of society? I pity you and others with your mentality. You refuse to see the opportunities that are there for many to take advantage of. I don't think it's the firmer fans that will have a problem calling those who provide services when we are in need. But perhaps you might? And I plead with those who choose to denounce our flag, our anthem and our nation to denounce their citizenship and move to somewhere you might think you would have more and better opportunities and treated better than here in the good ole US of A. I will borrow something from a poster on the internet who said.....Slaves kneel, Freemen stand! And I will thank every law enforcement agency, and all the military for their service to our communities and our nation. God Bless you, and God Bless America!

Mike: [All I see is felons kneeling to defend other felons. ]

Dude! Get help.

So many NFL players think they are heroes in America. but really overpaid entertainers.Their current antics are neither entertaining nor enjoyable, but in my opinion a disgrace to the country, its citizens and most of all our men and women along with their families who have defended this country. They have made sure this is a free country and you treat them like dirt. These people are the true American Hero.
You openly choose to disgrace them and the country they defended .
With all your money its strange this is a bad place yet you choose to still live here rather than find a perfet countyr. Lise America is not perfect but if there is a better place maybeyou and your followers might pick up and move.
In my opinion I believe anyone with the slightest amont of class woill stand and give our heroes a couple of minutes respect. Where does this put you?
You want to see real heroes, go visit a wounded warrior both menatlly and physically, visit the fallen heroes families and do something for their children. Do something positive for the people who gave you freedom.Just remember who the REAL HEROES are and that it is not you.

”If Ray Holbrook is not watching football anymore because of the nonviolent protests by the NFL players, he should leave the country”

So what you’re saying is that the player’s non-violent protests are OK, but Mr. Holbrook’s non-violent protest is so wrong that he should be told to leave the country? That right there is the true essence of liberal thought. Liberals only recognize the rights they like and those rights only apply to them. Predictable Mark will be along soon enough to further prove the point.

Because 70 percent of the players are African-American I guess you're going to stay inside your house from now on because you fear a man for standing up for his rights. Well, fine. Don't call the police, fire or ambulance because one of them might be the people you hate.

Of course, no liberal “argument” would be complete without playing the race card. “you fear a man for standing up for his rights… because one of them might be the people you hate?” Who is it that really fears someone standing up for their rights? And, who is the real hater here? You are the one telling someone to leave the country.

”What is this world coming to when people decide other people's fate?”

You mean like telling Mr. Holbrook he should leave the country?

Steve Fouga

Craig, how were you able to use an italic font in your comment? I didn't know it was possible on this forum.

Craig Lindberg

Steve, it's easy to do, just don't forget to turn it off at the end of the formatted section like I did above.

I know these three work. The more advanced code like text color, block quotes, and inserting images don’t seem to work here.

i = italics
b = bold
u = underline

To start the formatting, put the appropriate letter from above inside , for example, you would put i inside the to start italics formatting. Everything beyond that will be italics until you give it the code to end the italics formatting.

To end the formatting, put /letter inside the , for example, put /i inside the to end the italics formatting.

I can’t show you an exact example because it would just do the formatting and not show the code.

You see examples of how to do it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBCode. Use the code in the first column (HTML/CSS) and use the first example in each section where it is just a single letter inside the . You can test it out where nobody will see it in the comment section of an old post.

Let me know if this doesn’t make sense.

Craig Lindberg

It cut the out of my post. I guess it saw them as code. When I wrote "put the appropriate letter from above inside" it should have then said without the space between. Looking at the wiki link above will probably make the most sense.

Craig Lindberg

I give up. I won't let me put together to give an example. Hopefully the wiki link makes more sense than my posts.

Steve Fouga

[i]Thanks.[/i]

Steve Fouga

Didn't work.

Steve Fouga

Oops, used the wrong code.

Curtiss Brown

You are not going to get much sympathy from this bunch Paul Brown. It doesn't even occur to them to ask what is being protested.

Mark Aaron

Curtiss: [You are not going to get much sympathy from this bunch Paul Brown.]

There are several of us here who agree with Paul.

The racists and the Russians, not so much though.
