Tuesday, the League City City Council passed a resolution which simultaneously closed its city doors to unaccompanied illegal immigrant children and unfairly characterized Muslims as terrorists.

The resolution bans the use of League City public facilities for housing of unaccompanied children entering this country illegally.

While we are concerned about the humanitarian crisis prompted by thousands of unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors flooding into Texas, CAIR-TX is especially concerned with language used in the resolution which seems to single out Muslims as a threat to border security, an idea for which there is no basis.

The resolution contains a clause which states that “members of dangerous transnational criminal organizations and radical Islamic terror groups continue to exploit the situation to infiltrate the United States for the purpose of establishing criminal activity, terror cells, and training operations within our homeland.”

Specifically identifying “radical Islamic terror groups” gives the false and unfair impression that Muslims constitute a particular threat.

The “transnational criminal organizations” named in the clause were not described as members of any particular religion or nationality.

Why is Islam singled out?

The resolution bolsters the false perception that all Muslims are a threat to this country.

It is an unfortunate fact that multiple ideological terror groups exist in Central and North America, including the drug cartels whose wanton violence is well known and in fact constitutes terrorism.

Even the documents which the League City City Council attached to last night’s agenda do not support the claim that there is a significant risk of religiously-based terrorists infiltrating the US through the border.

Neither of these reports — “Texas Public Safety Threat Overview 2013,” produced by the Texas Department of Public Safety, and “Texas Border Security: A Strategic Military Assessment” by Barry R. McCaffrey and Robert H. Scales — presents meaningful data regarding the risk of terrorism committed by Muslims.

CAIR-TX appreciates that the council responded to community complaints and made an effort to modify the resolution’s language, but, unfortunately, substituting the word “Islamic” with “Islamist” didn’t erase the implication that Islam is specifically associated with terrorism.

“Islamist” is a troubling term, which has no concrete definition but serves to associate the religion of Islam with political ideologies.

During the next few months, we will see how the municipal, state and federal governments address the surge of unaccompanied minors illegally entering this country.

League City has laid out its approach.

Whatever the merits of the resolution, we ask that legislators be cautious and fair in their characterization of terror threats and the language they use to describe them.

"Why is Islam singled out?"

Well, I guess it's because our nation is at war with Islamic factions that have the avowed purpose of destroying America.

True, that doesn't mean Islam itself is to be feared, and certainly doesn't mean all Muslims are evil. But it's a fact that Islam IS associated with terrorism, probably because several heinous acts dating back to the early 2000's have been the avowed work of Islamic terrorists.

It pays to be careful, a lesson I hope this country has learned.

"Why is Islam singled out?" Not all members of Islam but RADICAL Islam. A large number of OTMs (Other than Mexican) illegals by the Border Patrol caught along the Texas - Mexico border are Muslim terrorists from Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, etc. These countries are not even on the same continent as the United States. They came in through Mexico.
"A jacket with patches from countries where al Qa'ida is known to operate was found in Jim Hogg County, Texas by the Border Patrol. The patches on the jacket show an Arabic military badge with one depicting an airplane flying over a building and heading towards a tower, and another showing an image of a lion's head with wings and a parachute emanating from the animal. The bottom of one patch read 'martyr,' 'way to eternal life' or 'way to immortality.'"

"Members of Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based terrorist organization, have already entered to the United States across our Southwest border." Page 29
With the United States Border Patrol tied up baby sitting over 50,000 illegal children they find this an opportune time to sneak into our country.

Domestic terrorists, eco terrorists, Christian terrorists and communist terrorists are okay..... but no Muslims!

I'm not happy with any terrorists, not even Nurse terrorists. But the groups you mentioned have not hijacked jets and killed thousands with a single strike - yet. When they do then I'm certain something will be said.

What part of 'radical Islamists terror' is difficult to understand? How can anyone even remotely manage to draw from those words that the entire Muslim religion is in play, or that other types of terrorists activities are condoned, since not specified?
Do we conclude from the opposition, then, that they support 'radical islamist terror'?
Or just unable to figure out what the words mean?
This is just another variation of the 'racist' label that is falsely and meaninglessly tossed out at every opportunity in an attempt to silence criticism of...whatever such people want silenced.
Now, it's 'Muslimism'...
Can't fix that...

This is rich. Nasrullah's organization, CAIR, has known terrorist ties - google them. We allow them to operate in the U.S. because of political correctness, but let's face it; If this were a Christian organization operating in the middle east, she would've already been executed. As the saying goes, not all muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are muslim.

Satan is busy, he's trying to back us up into the crippling clutches of "APATHY" by racial protesting and persecution! Be vigilant, be sober folks, for there are "WEEDS GROWING AMONG, AND AROUND THE WHEAT"...in this country.
Don't get caught sleeping, when you ought to be watching and discerning! All these sniffing(s), and crying(s) of foul concerning this BORDER CRISIS is facilitating Al Qaeda and Taliban TERRORRIST Cells being established in this country! I hope nobody believes me. Just wait awhile and it will all come to light. Americans will die because of it all, but ....it will come to light! Remember now, you heard it on this forum.

That reminds me of my college days at SHSU. A Palestinian student was ahead of me in the lunch line at White Hall. He was giving the serving girl a difficult time because the cafeteria was serving sausage that day. He complained that it probably contained pork and that Muslims could not eat pork. She explained that she just worked there and had no control over the menu. He finally told her "I'll just take the steak." She started to explain that it was not steak but he demanded "Just give me the steak, woman!" So she put the pork chop on his plate. You can't please some people.
