Robert Braeking

Mentally unstable? I think not. Rather crazy like a fox.

Jennifer Lance

Is this the same guy who was fired from College of the Mainland for Marxist views?

Doyle Beard

Sure is, and to think of SOMEONE WHO HATES AMERICAN VALUES to call someone unstable. ????????????????

Jennifer Lance

What nonsense.

Robert Waggoner

The real sad thing is the GDN would actually promote this by putting it out for the community to view.

Jarvis Buckley

I think everyone who reads this article
realizes who is mentally unstable.
GDN you should not have allowed this article.

Carlos Ponce

Our freedoms allow even far alt-Leftists to express their views. A well educated and informed reader can see through his lies, obfuscations and Marxist propaganda. I am glad that he is no longer at COM brainwashing the students of this county. In the past his columns have praised terrorist groups such as Hezbollah (GDN August 18, 2006) and condemned US ally Israel. Best advice is "Caveat emptor" or more specifically let the reader beware.

Gary Miller

GDN helped Trump by letting Smith demonstrate his mentally deranged opinions. D.M. Smith is a good example of the opposition to making America Great Again. Victims of liberalism are escaping from the 'safety nets' by getting jobs and becoming self suficiant. Many becoming too wealthy to vote Democrap.

Bill Cochrane

Isn't this the same guy that lost his tenure at COM and was fired? It almost takes an act of congress for someone to lose tenure. It appears he thinks Trump caused his firing. I hope he didn't cash his 401-K in when this "evil president" was elected. LOL

Kelly Naschke

David Michael Smith is the poster child of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Jarvis Buckley

Who wrote the title for this article?

Josh Butler

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a real thing.

Diane Turski

The sooner we are rid of this nightmare administration and can start undoing the damage he has done, the better for this country and all of its citizens, whether they are aware of it or not!!

Carlos Ponce

Diane Turski, don't worry, he'll be gone In January 2025. Then you can start complaining about President Pence. [beam]
In the meantime, enjoy the prosperity.

Doyle Beard

Wishful thinking. If you get rid of him surely no one wants one like the last president.

Mike Meador

[thumbdown]

Randy Chapman

What "damage" has he done, Diane? Other than putting liberals in the corner where they belong.

David Schuler

Many of us had these exact same feelings eight years ago.....

Bill Cochrane

I never worry about what people like Smith says. It's the people that agree that worries me.

Steve Fouga

Then be worried, Bill. It's a large majority of Americans.[whistling]

Carlos Ponce

" It's a large majority of Americans." Not really.

Jim Forsythe

The State of the Union address will be Tuesday, and Trump will most likely talk about  the economy , tax overhaul, infrastructure, immigration, trade, and terrorism and global threats. Even if he gives a good speech, will it generate support for himself beyond his core supporters.
Every month that goes by in which Trump fails to increase his support works against him, because voters' negative impressions of him will just solidify. Trump has done nothing to win over voters that voted against him in 2016, and some of his support has evaporated.
Joseph Kennedy III, will deliver the Democratic rebuttal to US President Donald Trump's State of the Union address.
This will be the first time some may have seen him, but not the last, as he may end up as the next Democratic candidate for President in 2020 .

Carlos Ponce

Joseph Kennedy III - dynasty politics. If he can stand on his own merit -fine but if he relies just on his name people will remember JFK's tax reductions but they'll also remember Chappaquiddick and the sexploits of those relatives. Family curse?

Steve Fouga

Well, Carlos, I guess the qualitative description of the majority is open to debate. The actual size is about 60%. I call that "large."

Jim Forsythe

As Joseph Kennedy III  was born on Oct.4,1980,he had nothing to do with Chappaquiddick and the exploits of his relatives.
Kennedy acknowledged his family legacy but stressed that he can't allow it to overwhelm his actions.
No one tried to make Trumps Grandfather part of the campaign,as Donald Trump's grandfather ran a Canadian brothel during the gold rush, nor should they have.

You believe in some type of curse, we are not living in the Middle ages.
Maybe you were thinking about Trump  being cursed, many times.

If Trump and Kennedy are the candidate's in 2020, it will give the American people a choice, as each candidate handles public service in a different way. There will not be a mistake in what each candidate stands for.
2020 is many Tweets away.
Watch Tuesday, and you will hear each speak.

Carlos Ponce

Jim, many agree the only reason Joseph Kennedy III is giving the rebuttal is because of his NAME.

Jim Forsythe

Would you be happier if it was with Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, and such or is it better with the new blood of our party.
The many that agree that  he will give the address because of his name, includes how many Democrats?
The reason he is giving the reply, is so he can get the exposure he needs, if he runs for President.

Carlos Ponce

How about Sheila Jackson Lee (D) Texas? She is TRULY representative of today's Democratic Party.[beam]
Joseph Kennedy III - another white guy. That doesn't bother me but it does bother Democrats who want to display "diversity".

Carlos Ponce

" The actual size is about 60%". Uh, no. What is the source of this LIE? Do you really believe 60% of Americans think as David Michael Smith????? HOGWASH!

Steve Fouga

Carlos asks if I believe 60% of Americans think like David Michael Smith:

Of course not. But 60% disapprove of the president's performance. This is a weighted average of several polls, published by 538. Though I was not polled, I count myself among those who, all things considered, disapprove of his performance. But I don't disapprove of everything he's done, by any means.

Carlos Ponce

Steve, check the demographics of your "sources". Don't be gullible into believing these polls actually represent America.

Carlos Ponce

By the way, Steve, 538 shows NONE of their pollsters at 60% disapproval. The closest is IPSOS at 59.2% but there is also YouGov at 52%. Check their demographics.

Jim Forsythe

Joseph Kennedy III speaking, will highlight one of the differences with the parties going forward. You can elect the old guard, and continue with what we have now or elect someone with a different view of what needs to be done and how they conduct their selves.
'After graduating in 2003, Kennedy joined the Peace Corps; a fluent speaker of Spanish, he worked in the Puerto Plata province of the Dominican Republic from 2004 to 2006, helping local tour guides in the 27 Charcos reserve in the Río Damajagua Park. He reorganized the group with some outside backing, directing the guides to rebuild parts of the park and develop skills to make the operation more attractive to tourists. "We basically created a union," said Kennedy, who reported that the group's efforts won higher wages for employees while improving revenue for the tour companies. His other activities in the Peace Corps included "stints as an Anti-Poverty Consultant for the Office of the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and a Research Analyst for the United Nations Development Program"

About repealing Obama care, Joseph Kennedy III said,
"The one that I read (Bible) calls on us to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to shelter the homeless, and to comfort the sick. It reminds us that we are judged not by how we treat the powerful, but how we care for the least among us"

Elizabeth Guzman will be giving the Democratic response in Spanish, another of the rising stars in the Democratic party.
Sheila Jackson Lee is not going to be running for President and she does not lack the recognition factor plus she may not run again because of her health..

Carlos Ponce

Joseph Kennedy III - the name reeks "OLD GUARD".

Jim Forsythe

Joseph Kennedy III is anything but old guard. He is 37 and not a conservative..
Definition of old guard -  conservative and especially older members of an organization (such as a political party).

Another quote from Joseph Kennedy III
"I believe this country was founded on a simple idea: That every person deserves to be treated fairly, by each other and by their government"
How does Joseph Kennedy III, govern.
"I will then begin to reach out  to the people of the Fourth District in order to hear directly from them about the challenges they are facing and their ideas on how we can restore fairness to our system"
If it comes down to a Trump vs. Joseph Kennedy III, people will have a choice, because of the  big difference in what a each stands for.

Trying to say something about another, because of his family's past, is a lazy way of saying I do not like him.
What has Joseph Kennedy III,done to deserve to be yoked to the past.
Fred Trump's past is not Donald's fault, at least not the part before he was born.

Carlos Ponce

You don't have to be "Conservative" to be "old guard". Definition "the original or long-standing members of a group or party". Since the Kennedy name is deeply ingrained in American politics for a century, he is DEFINITELY "Old Guard".

Jim Forsythe

You want to judge Joseph Kennedy III on what JFK, Robert and Edward did, and not on what he has done?.
The only one he could have known would have been Edward, and you want to say he is in some way responsible for the past.
When you think of George Prescott Bush, are you judging him on his accomplishments , or on what his Dad, Uncle and Grandpa did?

Do you judge the following on their own merit, or are you going to find out about their Grandparent's.
The following are some more Democrat's that we will see in the national Democratic landscape in the near future.
Tim Ryan (Ohio) ,Joe Crowley (N.Y.), Linda Sanchez (Calif.),Cheri  Bustos (Ill.) , Ruben Gallego (Ariz.), Eric Swalwell (Calif.)

Steve Fouga

Carlos, you are right about the disapproval rating. I was simply subtracting his abysmal 40% approval rating from 100% to get 60%, forgetting the 4% or so who can't make up their minds. 56% is still a large majority, especially compared to 40%.

As for the demos, this is why I like 538. They use a weighted average of a number of contemporaneous polls to arrive at their number. One of the reasons they do that is to cancel out demographics as best they can.

Here's a prediction: President Trump's popularity will jump significantly after his State of the Union address.

Carlos Ponce

There's an old Earth saying: "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Steve Fouga

I've heard it before, and always thought it's aremarkably short-sighted and pessimistic sentiment.

And in this case I have no idea what it has to do with this thread. 🤔

Carlos Ponce

Steve, it is a reply to Jim's post.

Steve Fouga

Hahaha! Oh.

niki wise

I always wondered what Mr. Smith looked like. Glad the picture came with his comments.

Gehrig Boone

David Smith is pure evil...personified.

Jarvis Buckley

Nightmare administration?? MSNBC
brainwashed.

Don Schlessinger

I stopped reading DMS quite a while ago. I do read the comments after though, very entertaining.

Micheal Byrd

“Elections have consequences, and at the end of the day, I won.” – President Obama to House Republican Whip Eric Cantor, January 23, 2009.

Get over it snowflake boy....

David Smith

Proving COM was right all along

Doyle Beard

Come on DMS you finally lost out at COM because you are against American Values and you lost last presidential election. EVen Hillary was for accepting the results until she lost. Grow up, accept it and move on. Your and any who cant accept the democracy of an election need to get a little fortitude. I have been voting for 68 yrs and have won and lost my vores but guess what I have moved on. Until people like you and many others you need to rise up and do something for your country instead of continually backbiting. Get a life.

Carol Dean

I have had so much fun scrolling through these comments and laughing out loud! Carlos, as usual, you are "right on the money"! "Old Guard"??? Please spare us from George P. Bush! Now, the mere mention of a Kennedy, past or present is laughable. Pretty sure the GCDN only ran Smith's article to see how many comments they could get...oh, wait they are a "liberal rag". How could I forget that? Nice to see that the majority recognize a "dog and pony show" when they read about one!

Cary Semar

The interesting thing about our current president is that the people who love him don't know him and the people who know him don't like him.

Carlos Ponce

That's not true, Cary.

Cary Semar

I do not trust you.

Carlos Ponce

That's okay, Cary. When all is revealed you will change your tune.[beam]

Carol Dean

That is a strange comment to make. Carlos is one of the few honest people who posts valuble information on these discussions.
