My presentation at the March 19 Oceans of Opportunities Job Fair will be about welding.

The Galveston College Welding Program provides an educational platform that will enhance a student’s ability to develop skill sets that will allow him or her to get a job in an industry that is desperately seeking skilled labor around the world.

With the addition of NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) curriculum, a student can receive three certificates in beginner, intermediate and advanced welding and earn an associate of applied science degree in welding technology and also earn four additional NCCER certificates recognized as an industry standard nationwide.

The Galveston College welding program trains welders in four processes: shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and flux cored arc welding. Students train on plate in all positions, in fillet and grove welds, pipe welding in all positions, layout and fabrication, welding inspection and blueprint reading.

The skills one can develop in our welding technology program are directly proportional to what the welding industry is looking to hire and with a degree, promote.

The welding industry is global and allows one to travel to any place they want to and be able to get a job.

As manufacturing jobs are on the rise, and with skilled labor being the backbone of the oil and gas industry, jobs are plentiful for those with the correct motivation, work ethic and education.

Visit the Oceans of Opportunities Job Fair on March 19 at 5600 Seawall Boulevard.

The event is sponsored by Congressman Randy Weber’s Office, the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, the city of Galveston, Workforce Solutions and Galveston College.

The Job Fair runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., and my turn on the speakers platform is at 10:40 a.m.

Come on by or call me at 409-944-1405.
