Campaign season is upon us, and candidates have been rallying votes at every local event.

I’d like to challenge candidates running for office to think about where they spend the money they raise locally to support their campaigns.

We all know campaigns are expensive: signs, brochures, advertising, buttons, stickers … the list goes on and on.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know that all the money donated by local residents to help candidates get elected was spent here at home?

As president of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, it is my job to keep our mission of promoting and advocating for business out front.

The Galveston chamber is about uniting the voice of the business community and working together to achieve great things.

We are all in this together, and in order to survive, we must promote one another.

Please join me in encouraging our future leaders to consider the potential impact of their purchasing power on their own friends and neighbors, the folks they will be serving when they are elected.

The Galveston chamber offers several tools to consumers and businesses to help them find services and products that meet their needs, such as printing, photography and sign production.

Visit www.Galveston and click on “Member Look Up” to browse through all of the businesses that are members of the chamber.

You can also find chamber members on our mobile app, My Chamber App, which is available for download in your smartphone’s app store.

Last, but certainly not least, our printed Galveston Island Guide provides a list of chamber members and serves as a relocation and visitors guide.

It is free and available for pickup at the Galveston Chamber of Commerce, 2228 Mechanic St., Suite 101, in Downtown Galveston.

Gina M. Spagnola is president of the Galveston Chamber of Commerce.
