I really enjoy reading this contributors letters to the editor. Whether you might not always agree with his point of view, he always has a very good point.
I agree with this one all the way!
Gerhardt has been "drinking the Kool-Aid" for a long time.
You should try some . BTW, it's Gerhard, without a "t" [wink
Bottom line: Ted Cruz's father came here LEGALLY. These children came here ILLEGALLY. That's all that needs to be said.
Rafael Cruz came on a student visa and an illegal exit visa. That student visa was obtained by concealing his association with Castro, a communist activity that would have prevented his visa. When the student visa ran out and he should have left back home he applied for political asylum.under false pretext. He had fought with Castro and was therefore UNIKELY to get prosecuted by his comrade-in-arms.
As I read this article, and how much love the writer says he possess for this great land of opportunity, he traveled so many miles in order to get here, I wondered if he loved this country enough to VOLUNTEER to go to a foreign country and take up arms and risk dying or being KILLED for it, like many of us did, and still more of us did not make it back! I'm just wondering you see, because talk is cheap!-Want to talk scripture? Okay I'll be glad to accommodate you! ( John 15:13 ) "No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends." -I use to love going though airports packing my duffle bag on my shoulder because it show my service number beginning with RA instead of US on it! RA meant you volunteered and US meant you were drafted! Not much difference, but it was a little bit of a difference!-Let me say it again......"TALK IS CHEAP!" [smile]
Sorry, was too busy building a second plant to manufacture M-60 Army Tank castings and personally, single-handedly, re-engineering it, for $16k a year, to make three a day instead of two for less money. Maybe one of them was the one you rode in or whose shells saved you. - So, you are saying that to be counted one has to have been a volunteer VFW. Maybe you are right. - Well, Congress, on neither side of the aisle is qualified then. Ted Cruz? His father is. He fought with Castro in Cuba.
Pardon me, but is there just a single road that one must travel, and that road must lead to a single conclusion, in order for one to have a legitimate point-of-view? If so, then I wonder how our founding fathers managed to ratify our Constitution. After all, they didn't all follow the same path to get here, and didn't all have the exact same viewpoint when they arrived at the convention.
Gosh, I sure hope that we can love our country without having to have conforming opinions. I certainly don't want everyone to share my opinions. I just hope that we can all make the effort to at least understand our own and each other's opinions, discuss them openly and honestly, and come to resolutions that we're all willing to fight for.
If you start an organization based on this, count me in as #2
Amen! Somebody might as well say amen!
How many of these children are you going to adopt, raise to adulthood and be financially responsible for sir? I choose to focus on taking care of American children first. They need our love and compassion too! What part of ILLEGAL is hard to understand?
Ted Cruz's father left Cuba in 1957 but did not become an American Citizen until 2005. Are you sure that qualifies him as a 'legal immigrant'? He couldn't speak English, either.
Many come and get immigration status settled after the fact. That is what a deportation hearing is all about; determining if a person should and can stay.
Lisa, I'm sure you want to put your money where your mouth is; many are seeking help with school supplies this time of year and I know you will help those children.[beam][beam][beam]
You are correct Nurse Jayne, I am currently involved in Operation Backpack. Familiar with it?
Nurse Jayne, a Legal immigrant does not necessarily become an American Citizen immediately upon entry. My grandparents entered LEGALLY in 1926 with their son, my father. My father was not aware he was not not a native born American Citizen, said the Pledge faithfully ever day in school, joined the US Navy in World War II. At first he was supposed to be a Postal clerk aboard a destroyer but then learned of his status. A ship's Postal Clerk had to be an American Citizen. He immediately asked for and was eventually granted American citizenship but in the meantime was reassigned to serve as a signalman aboard an aircraft carrier. He married mom in 1952 who was a LEGAL IMMIGRANT with a Green Card but did not become a citizen. The green card serves as proof that its holder, a lawful permanent resident (LPR), has been officially granted immigration benefits, which include permission to reside and take employment in the United States.
Nurse Jayne, what type of connections have you ever had with Rafael Cruz? There are a lot of us who happen to have been blessed with his friendship. Legal is Legal no matter how you want to twist the words.
Are you sending money to support your cause? You better hope that your "Nurse" call sign is for RN. You are going to be dealing with a lot of tuberculosis, scabies, lice, sexually transmitted diseases and metal health issues in your future.
Like many Cuban youth, Rafael Cruz bought into Fidel's rhetoric but became disillusioned. He fought for Fidel Castro in the Cuban Revolution when he was 14 years old, but "didn't know Castro was a Communist." A few years later he became a staunch critic of Castro when "the rebel leader took control and began seizing private property and suppressing dissent."He remained regretful for his early support of Castro, and emphatically conveyed this remorse to his young son over the following years." All this is well known and documented by Robert T. Garrett of the Dallas Morning News. You say,"He had fought with Castro and was therefore UNIKELY to get prosecuted by his comrade-in-arms." Apparently you need to re-read history and see what Castro did to those who turned against him. So what does any of this have to do with son Ted Cruz? Gerhard Meinecke, if we looked at your family tree could there be be anything you wish were kept quiet? I think we all have relatives that fit that description. In this country the sins of the father are not inherited by his descendents.
One's father's past does not prevent one from becoming President these days.Twice.
But R. Cruz is not an example of a legal immigrant, as Ted Cruz holds him up to be. Technically he is a precedent for the acceptance of anyone coming here claiming asylum, truthfully or not.
Of course, all or nothing is seldom a good way to do anything, and a complete lack of compromise and inclusion, and monkeying with the rules of Congress just to pass it, is how we end up with terrible laws that do far more harm than good...like the ACA, demonstrably.'Comprehensive immigration reform' as sitting in Congress passed by the Senate, supported by the President, and rejected by the House because it puts border security SECOND to passage. It's an 'all or nothing' bill, because POTUS has STATED he WILL NOT sign anything except that Comprehensive Immigration Reform', which, if the name is anything as honest and accurate as 'Affordable Care Act', we will get screwed 8 ways from sundown in effect and cost by passing.
Here's a thought:POTUS stops going to parties and campaigning for a day and calls up the top 10 leaders of the Senate and House. They all get together in a room for a WHOLE DAY. POTUS does NOT insult and demean anybody during the time since there are no adoring simpletons standing behind him to clap and cheer. Reed stops insisting that the border is secure as 290,000 people are apprehended just in the last few months, Boehner says he'll drop the lawsuit If POTUS will start acting like he remembers what he learned as a 'Constitutional scholar', and then acts like it.And then they agree to disagree on somethings, agree on others, then COMPROMISE (egos in the closet...) and start SECURING the border, and after that's done they can finish passing an actual bipartisan bill on immigration.
And then, I woke up....
I second it
...as a proposal, but wish I could see it even in a dream, but....alas...
Rafael Cruz is a legal immigrant, loves America, and is an honorable Christian Man whom I admire. Learned English and doesn't wave around the Cuban flag. He assimilated to the American culture.
Most of these people coming into the USA are NOT children. All lies by this administration who is working with these countries to overwhelm our welfare system. Our media continues to lie to the American people, we will pay through property taxes, our health and our children. Also there is not an increase in crime in these countries. There is more crime in most of our large cities then in their countries. Chicago, Detroit, NY, Flint, and other large cities. How many children our you going to adopt, bring into your home? How much our you going to donate? Besides the food stamps, housing, healthcare and educating of these people whom have never been to school or want to learn English that we are paying for.
Glad to be a part of my "inside circle".....
There are plenty of places to seek asylum. How about Costa Rica or Panama, or Venezuela? Because none of those countries offer the freebees we offer. Our systems are already over taxed and we don't need to put any more of a burden on those of us who have paid into these programs. Send them back in order to send a message to those who are planning to send their children."They're wasting their money". You want to play good samaritan do it on your dime.
Do we as a nation really have a stomach to do what it will take to fix the problem?
The question is what are we as have going to do.
Have You done your part by not hiring people unless they are US citizens? Have You written all in DC?
Has the President done all he can?Has Senate done anything?Has Congress done anything? All including our Governor have not done much but to blame others! Sending 1000 troops to boarder that can not enforce is not much.We (USA) need to decide what are we going do
Guat"Guatemala has one of the highest violent crime rates in Latin America in 2009, fewer civilians were reported killed in the war zone of Iraq than were shot, stabbed, or beaten to death in Guatemala, and 97% of homicides "remain unsolved." Today, El Salvador experiences some of the highest murder rates in the Latin America; it is also considered an epicenter of the gang crisis, along with Guatemala and Honduras Crime is a major problem in Honduras, which has the highest murder rate of any nation"
"All including our Governor have not done much but to blame others! Sending 1000 troops to boarder(sic) that can not enforce is not much."Really Bigjim? Sending 1000 National Guardsmen to the border is "not much"? As for the violence in Central America, this has been going on for about a century, nothing new. What is different is the urgency of the "Coyotes" plea: " Cross the border while you can, Obama will only be in office until January 2017. The next president may not be so lax". Read "La Prensa" of El Salvador and Honduras and get a different picture than what the Left is painting.
Is the 1000 troops going to stop the influx of people? No it not going to stop it. Until we do what we need to do to stop the flow, it's all window dressing. Do not forget it's election season, not get it done season!
Jim, since you asked:No, the one's in power do not.Good question - step one would be elect different people.Yes, to the best of my knowledge.Yes, snail mail and e-mail and even a few phone calls. No - he's busy on more important issues. No - they've passed a 'comprehensive immigration bill' that requires pass it first, THEN promises to secure the border - shades of 1983....The House is having none of that, and has proposed closing the border first them tackling immigration, but that's dead in the water so far.Sending 1000 NG belatedly is doing more than refusing to even fly over the area, or shooting pool in Colorado.1000 NG should have at least as much deterrent effect, multiplied, as one guy with a club standing in front of a polling place.Yes. The decision so far is that spending well north of 12 MILLION bucks a day just in ONE AREA is 'compassionate'. First decision is when do we stop spending other people's money, on other people not even citizens, and here illegally.Guatemala, El Salvadore, and Honduras? Are they part of those '57' states we have?. How about Chicago, or even DC, where the answer to the likelihood you'll be killed any given day is to disarm the potential victims, and advocate spending billions on more illegal aliens.
Step one that might actually DO squat:GuatemalEl SalvadoreHondurasMexicoALL of you will have deducted from your U.S. taxpayer provided aid an amount equal to 250 dollars (Jeh Johnson's reported MINIMUM cost for each illegal) for each and every man, woman, or child from your country that enters our country illegally, effective NOW. Also effective now, no aircraft from your countries will be allowed to land in this country, anywhere, until you stop the flood coming this way.NO access to U.S. banking will be allowed by any of you until the same.NO tourism from this country to yours will be permitted until the same.Could do it all, TODAY, with an 'executive order', if nothing else.....
Whoa! Whoa! Hold on a minute. We have high murder rates in Chicago and other cities in... THIS country! We have deprived children in ...THIS country, too. We have veterans who are homeless, and many are dying because no medical care is afforded to them by the country, they lost limbs fighting for! WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT THAT? If the United States has any obligations at all, it has obligations to solve it's problems first, just like many of the posters I see posting here have already alluded to.-I Timothy 5:8"But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel." ( sinner )-We cannot police the whole world, and like that we cannot be responsible for the whole world! If anybody feels differently, then those who do should also question why we are not helping starving, and OPPRESSED young men and women in KENYA, AFRICA, INDIA, and HAITI! Some still being sold into slavery, others dying early from starvation and lack of clean drinking water! ( Oh talk back to me if you can!!! )-I'm going to say this again, this country should secure it borders, to keep out ALL ILLEGALS, GANG MEMBERS, TERRORISTS, FOREIGN CRIMMINALS, ETC. ETC. IF there are anybody in this country illegally, them a policy or policies should be available and if not,....then procured, and implement to deal with those cases and reconciled them as appropriate. In the end, we should continue to be a country who welcomes immigrations but by a fair and impartially implemented system fair to all people, and not just for ILLEGALS coming from Central America!!!! Anything other than that will not result in proper respect for this country, not in the eyes of our citizens nor in the eyes of the rest of the world. It that happens, then we are in worst shape than I thought.-
Excuse me please. My family was bought here on a BOAT (ILLEGAL, BOUND , SOLD) to work in the house as the MASTER property. I was taught this by my grandmother who was a child of SLAVE PARENTS . I was not taught this in school only at home
Life has shown me to help as many people as I can, Including these kids. You might have grow up thinking you are legal, if truth be told the Indians ( RED MAN (INDIANS) were here first. Help as many people as you can, tomorrow is not promise to anyone. To God Be The Glory for he has done great thing for me.
You are so absolutely right, mytoby3113. Folks need to realize the old Spanish saying "todos somos mojados". It uses the "wet - - -" word, but in an educative manner. We all are from somewhere else, and very likely all our forefathers (regardless of race) didn't have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out in their old country.
Even our own senator Ted "Rafael" Cruz has origins that we can deem in a jingoistic, nationalistic manner by saying "he doesn't belong". I've actually said it in jest b/c so many a few years back questioned our President's origins. It's racism plain and simple. If these were whitey white kids from Nova Scotia, there would be little if any uproar.
GM, I didn't vote for Obama, and would not vote for Cruz, and their Daddy's have nothing to do with those decisions.Nor should it for anybody else's decision.Look at the bright side...the voters get a chance with Cruz to find out they're being BS'd on an issue BEFORE he gets into the job....[whistling]
