The summer band concerts begin tonight in Galveston.

This is a fine old tradition.

In the late 1800s, bands played at beach hotels and at Garten Verein.

Families would gather and enjoy the sea breezes and the music.

Now, the concerts are every Tuesday evening at the Sealy Gazebo, across the street from Rosenberg Library.

They’re still free.

The guy with the baton — and the trumpet — is Frank Incaprera, who has been conducting for more than 50 years.

If you’re new to Galveston County, this is something you ought to know about.

If you’ve been around awhile, you know all about this tradition.

Maybe it’s time to get reacquainted with it.

It’s just a nice thing to do with the family on a summer’s evening.
