Barbara Alexander Gates was born October 16, 1947 in Jeanerette, Louisiana to the late John and Sarah Alexander. Barbara was the third of eight children. Barbara graduated from Lincoln High School in La Marque, TX from the Class of 1966. Barbara worked in the UTMB Labor and Delivery unit for 22 years.

Barbara accepted Christ and was united with Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She was a faithful member until she moved to Houston, Texas, where she attended New Jerusalem Christian Center. Upon returning to La Marque, she joined Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Roy L. Smith.

On Saturday, March 3, 2018, Barbara passed from this earthly life. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Julia Alexander and grandson, DeAndré (D. J.) Alexander.

Left to cherish memories of her life are her children, Valerie Alexander, Darcus Alexander (Cassandra) and Dawna Alexander; grandchildren, Amanda and Amber Alexander, Devon, Davionne, Deondra and Dartavian Alexander, Darian Alexander, Dominic Smauldon and Dawson Arredondo; siblings, Ernest Alexander (Victoria), John H. Alexander (Hester), Rosa Timmons (late Garneza), Sarah Alexander and Lois Horton; a great-grandchild, Kaldur’ahm Alexander and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A public visitation is scheduled on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Both events will be held at Carnes Funeral Home, 3100 Gulf Freeway Texas City, TX 77591. 409-986-9900.
