Petra Barrientes

Petra Barrientes, 77, died November 30th, with her family by her side. She was born November 19, 1939, in Matehuala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico and married Pedro T Barrientes, Jr. at the young age of 14 and recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Petra was a homemaker. She was interested in gardening, bingo, casinos, and traveling with family. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to many family members and friends. She loved music and supported her husband as a musician who played the accordion for many years. She worked at Steve’s Cafe, Flagship Motel, Seahorse Motel, Transitional Learning Center, Fantasy Island Souvenir Shop, and as a caregiver for the elderly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cirilo Salazar Cristan, and three brothers: Erasmo Duenas Cuello, Selso Duenas Cuello, and Serfino Cruz Cuello.

Petra is survived by her mother, Blasa Cuello Salinas, at age 101, from Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico; husband, Pedro T. Barrientes, Jr.; children: Graciela Cabrera, Jose Francisco Barrientes, Blasa Estella Lopez and husband, Richard, Marcela Hughes, and Maricela Dolores Barrientes; grandchildren: David Gonzales, Petrina Gonzales, Felicia Barrientes, Crystal Gonzales, Chela Cabrera, Monica Solis and husband, John, Ashley Gonzales, Kristina Hughes, Rubie Molina, Alexis Hughes, Tiffany Moya, Pedro Barrientes, Abigail Martinez, Petrina Martinez, Graciela Martinez, and Damian Garcia; great grandchildren: Deja Villareal, Mia Galicia, Angelia Barrientes, John Vasquez III, Jackie Perez, Alexandra Slaton, Juliana Zamora, Jordan Gonzales, Evelyn Olivo, Alianna Sorto, Manuel Solis III, Ayden Abrego, Jace Abrego, and Nalyna Barrientes; great great grandchild, Renali Davis; and eight brothers and sisters: Eudocio Salazar Cuello of Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico; Cirilo Salazar Cuello, of Matehuala, S.L.P, Mexico; Maria Acidalia Barrientes, of Galveston; Maria Concepcion Cuello of Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico; Aurora Cuello, of Monterrey, Mexico; Senorina Duenas Cuello, of D.F. Mexico; Alejandrina Duenas Cuello of Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico; and Maria Ramirez of Galveston.

Petra’s family will receive visitors beginning at 4:30 pm, Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 6:00 pm.
