Bertha Oakes, 76, resident of Dickinson, Texas, passed away February 12, 2018. She was born December 23, 1941 in Texas City, Texas to parents Juan and Margarita Reyna. She was a previous member of St. Mary’s The Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City. She is currently a member of Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson.

Bertha and Dan were married 53 years. Bertha was a stay at home mom. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Most will remember her as a wheeler and dealer at garage sales! Her children will remember her best as a fighter. She was a breast cancer survivor. Even in her final days, Bertha fought 5 ½ days off of all machines.

She was preceded in death by her son Michael Cortez.

She is survived by her husband Dan Oakes; daughter, Susan Honicker and husband Mark Honicker; sons, Dan Oakes Jr., David Oakes; grandchildren, Jessica Oakes, Emily Oakes, Hayden Honicker, and Peyton Honicker.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City, Texas. Interment will follow at La Marque City Cemetery in La Marque, Texas.
