Betty Moates, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2018 in Galveston County, Texas. She was born on March 7, 1936 to parents Robert “Red” and Erline Evans in Choctaw County, Alabama.
After losing her father as a young child, she was lovingly raised by her mother Erline and step-father, Bush Sparrow in Gilbertown, Alabama. She enjoyed traveling and was able to experience living in various places across the country. Betty and her husband Chuck settled in Dickinson with their family in 1971 and were involved in the community that they loved. They also enjoyed traveling back to Choctaw County where they maintained her families’ homestead in Gilbertown, Alabama.
Betty was a strong, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and mentor to many. She was the true definition of a virtuous woman. Betty was known as “Granny” to many people, other than her grandchildren. She was involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and was always there for any of them, no matter what the problem may be or what time it was. Granny will be deeply missed and forever remembered and cherished in the many lives she touched. Throughout her illness and struggles, she never complained or burdened her family or caregivers. Her family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at Regent Care Center in League City for the kindness and care given to Betty during her stay there as a second home and treating her as your extended family.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck Moates; daughter-in-law, Sharon Moates; and her beloved dog, Rusty.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Rhonda Lee and husband Larry, Steven Rogers and wife Louann, Jerry Moates; grandchildren, Lisa Conley and husband Brad, Brittney Moates, Alex Moates; her favorite visitor and great-grand-dog, Axl Conley; as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Friends are welcome to join Betty’s family on Saturday, March 10, 2018 for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service to begin at 12 noon in the chapel of Carter-Conley Funeral Home. Her family is honored to handle her services; as her funeral service will be officiated by her cousin, Pastor Michael Perry and under the loving care of her granddaughter, whom she always supported throughout her life and in funeral service. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Dickinson, Texas under the direction of Carter-Conley Funeral Home.
