Officer David D. Thomas, Sr., age 61, of La Marque passed away Monday January 29, 2018 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

Funeral services 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home in Galveston, Reverends Kerry Tillman and Eugene Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Born December 15, 1956 in Galveston to Sidney Joseph Thomas, Sr. and Willie Mae Jones Thomas, David graduated Ball High School and went on to become a longtime devoted Public Servant in Law Enforcement serving as a Galveston Police Officer for 25 years until his retirement. He then went on to serve at the GISD Police Department 4 years, next to the Galveston Fire Department Marshalls Office until Ike and then to his current position with the Port of Galveston Police. He also has provided security for the Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston for many years. David was a lifelong member of West Point Baptist Church in Galveston and an avid and proud Dallas Cowboys Fan. He was a hardworking, faithful son and father who loved his children dearly. His legacy of hard work and faithful service to family and community will live on in the lives of his family and colleagues.

Preceded in death by his parents, survivors include his son, David D. Thomas, Jr. and wife Bonnie of La Marque; daughter, Jessica N. Limones and Damien McZeal, Sr. of Galveston; brothers, Sidney Joseph Thomas, Jr. of Houston and Reginald Mark Thomas of Galveston; grandson, Damien McZeal, Jr. of Galveston; former wife and close friend Johnetta Thomas of La Marque; close friend and companion, Rosemary Limones of La Marque; aunt, Louvered Fisher and husband Charles of Houston; numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are his brothers and sisters in Blue. Honorary pallbearers are Sidney Joseph Thomas, III, Carl Lomax, Ronnie Gordon, Matthew Thomas.
