Bennie A. Vargas, Jr went to be with the Lord God on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at UTMB. He was born in Galveston on April 29, 1953. Bennie was a devout Catholic and his undying faith in our Lord brought him through him many struggles that came with the disease of diabetes.

Bennie loved being around family and friends reminiscing of old times and jamming out to old and new music. He loved watching all kinds of sports and loved teaching us how to cook. Graduating from Ball High in 1972 he entered into the hospitality business working at The Golden Greek Restaurant and the Balinese Room. From there he left the island to reside in Houston for the majority of his life assisting with operations of our cousin Louis (Cha-Cha) Vasquez Primo’s Mexican Restaurants. Toward the latter part of his life he came back to the island working Gaido’s Pelican Club, Landry’s, M&M Restaurant and family owned La Palmita Café.

Bennie is preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Marie Vargas; mother Gloria Vasquez Vargas; father Bennie Vargas Sr; and nephew Zachary Joseph Gonzales.

Bennie leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, daughter Jessica Rae Vargas; grandchildren, Rashaun and Miyah Smith; brother Roy Vargas; sister Cindy Vargas; Anthony Black and Mario Gonzales.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary and Vigil service to begin at 7:00 P.M., with Deacon John Carrillo officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Valencia, Mario Murillo, Anthony Black, Roland Martinez, Les Vargas and Alex Cruz. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Vargas, Johnny Martinez, Roger Plata and Austin Vargas.

We would like to “Thank” the staff at UTMB for their compassion and care. Also, I want to “Thank” the staff at DaVita South Shore Dialysis Center and Dr. Sarkar for their many years of excellent care.
