GALVESTON — A prostitution sting netted five arrests Thursday evening, police said.
An undercover officer with the Galveston Police Vice and Narcotics division solicited “mostly known” offenders, police Sgt. Joshua Schirard said.
Three women were charged with prostitution, with each woman’s bond set at $5,000.
Two women with three or more previous convictions of prostitution were charged with enhanced felony prostitution, Schirard said. Bond was set at $60,000.
Galveston Police Chief Henry Porretto said in a statement prostitution stings help deter other criminal activity.
“Public order offenses, such as prostitution, are the root causes of many other types of crime,” Porretto said. “Proactively targeting these core issues helps curb more serious offenses before their onset and assures that our island remains a family friendly environment for both our citizens and our guests.”
