LA MARQUE — A Houston man died Friday night when his car crashed through a guardrail on Interstate 45 and slammed into a utility pole that then fell onto the highway and caused a second accident, police said.
Jesus Ramones, 23, was thrown from his four-door Lexus and died at the scene in La Marque shortly before 10:30 p.m., police Sgt. Gilbert Rodriguez said. No one else was in the car, Rodriguez said.
Ramones was headed south in the 1500 block of Interstate 45 when he apparently lost control, Rodriguez said.
The car plowed through the guardrail and struck a utility pole, knocking it onto the freeway, Rodriguez said.
It’s unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.
A second accident occurred when the utility pole fell across the highway. The driver of that vehicle was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch to be treated for minor injuries, Rodriguez said.
