TEXAS CITY — A man drove a pickup into a drainage ditch in the 4800 block of Emmett F. Lowry Expressway in Texas City shortly before noon Thursday, police said.

The vehicle was partially submerged in the Gulf Coast Water Authority Canal, and the driver escaped with some minor injuries to his ankles, police Capt. Brian Goetschius said. No one else was in the vehicle.

The truck leaked some fluids, which were contained by firefighters at the scene, Goetschius said.

It was unclear what caused the car to leave the roadway and plunge into the water, he said.
