LA MARQUE — A member of the U.S. Coast Guard was hurt Saturday when his pickup struck a concrete guardrail head-on, authorities said.

Speed was a factor in the 7:25 p.m., single-vehicle crash that happened as the truck was headed eastbound in the 5400 block of FM 1756, La Marque police Sgt. M. Cravens said.

The man, who listed a Florida address, was the only occupant. He suffered a serious leg injury, and firefighters quickly removed him from the truck. An ambulance took him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for treatment of injuries that weren’t life threatening, Cravens said.
