GALVESTON — Jury selection for the trial of a father accused of keeping his son locked in a wooden box at a Galveston home took place Monday.
David Wieseckel, 42, is charged with unlawful restraint of a child and two counts of injury to a child.
A grand jury indicted Wieseckel and his wife, Linda Schwan, for allegedly keeping the 9-year-old boy in an 8-foot by 6-foot wooden box and forcing the child to do push-ups. Authorities began an investigation after the boy ran away from home.
After being indicted in March 2013, Wieseckel and Schwan were found in Las Vegas the next month and extradited to Texas.
Schwan was charged with one count of unlawful restraint of a child and injury to a child. Her case is pending trial.
