GALVESTON — Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy, scheduled for today, to help identify a badly decomposed body found in Galveston on Wednesday, according to police and the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A cause of death had not yet been determined Thursday.

The body was found by railway employees near railroad tracks north of the 5100 block of Avenue E shortly before 4 p.m., police said.

The body appeared to belong to a middle-aged man, according to a news release from the Galveston Police Department.
