LEAGUE CITY — A diesel fuel spill that slowed traffic in the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 in League City for several hours was cleared shortly before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

A tire blowout on the truck carrying the fuel severed a line between saddle tanks on the vehicle at about 7 a.m., spilling about 60 gallons onto the freeway near FM 518, League City Fire Chief Brad Goudie said.

Crews from the fire department and Texas Department of Transportation closed two lanes during the cleanup, which took a little more than three hours, Goudie said.
