A four-vehicle accident shut down northbound traffic on the Galveston Causeway for a little more than 30 minutes Thursday, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputies said.

The wreck occurred at about 4 p.m. when a car merging into the center lane to avoid construction work just north of the causeway clipped the front end of an 18-wheeler and spun clockwise into a truck pulling a boat trailer, Capt. Mike Benavides said.

Another sedan was involved in the accident, deputies said.

One driver was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch as a precaution, but did not have any visible injuries, deputies said.

The wreck was cleared and the northbound lanes reopened by 4:45 p.m.
